The tradeoff is that a magnetic catch holds a door, it does not lock it or provide any security. If the opening needs to be secured or keyed, you need a latch or lock, not a catch.

Plan on a footprint of 2-1/16 x 1-1/8 x 5/8 inches for the MC325 catch body. Those are the three dimensions Deltana states, without axes assigned, so lay the part on the frame or the shelf underside and map them to your opening before you drill. The 5/8 inch figure is the thinnest of the three, which is the depth you have to clear behind the mounting face plus room for the strike plate on the door.

Not as the latching hardware. A magnetic catch like the MC325 holds a door closed by magnet pull, with no latchbolt engaging a strike, so it cannot serve as the positive latching a fire door assembly requires. Use it on cabinets, casework, closet doors, and non rated interior doors. On a rated opening you need a listed latch or lock designed for that assembly.

Mounting hardware is in the bag. Each MC325 ships in an individual poly bag with its mounting hardware included, sold by the each, so one order is one catch with what it needs to go on. Nothing else is supplied with it, so if you are catching a door that needs a stop or a pull, order those separately.

Deltana rates the MC325 as commercial. It is built in steel rather than a molded plastic housing, which is what carries the pull and the repeated slamming you get in a facility, an office casework run, or a multi-family common area. Property managers standardizing across a building can spec the same catch on every cabinet and closet door and get a consistent hold.

Both are magnetic catches, and the choice is mostly about size and duty. The Deltana MC325 is a steel catch measuring 2-1/16 x 1-1/8 x 5/8 inches, shipped each with mounting hardware, and rated commercial. The Trimco alternative is the 810 Series heavy-duty magnetic catch, which is the one to look at when the door is heavy or the catch is being abused. If your existing openings already run Deltana trim and you want the hardware to match, stay with the MC325.

No handing to specify. The MC325 is a single model with no left or right hand option, because a magnetic catch works by the strike plate meeting the magnet face straight on. Mount the catch body on the fixed side (frame, shelf, or cabinet rail) and the strike on the door so the two faces meet flush when the door closes. That makes it equally usable on left hand and right hand openings, and one part number covers the whole job.
