Handing is reversible on the SDL688, so one part number covers a left or right hand storm door. That matters if you are buying for several openings at once and do not want to sort handing per door.

Outside is a knob, inside is a lever with a thumb turn for locking. So you pull the door shut by the knob from outside and throw the thumb turn from inside. There is no key cylinder in the set, it is a thumb turn lock only. Both sides mount on 6 x 1-1/2 inch extruded brass escutcheon back plates.
3) My existing storm door latch has a 1-1/2 inch backset, will the Deltana SDL688 drop into that prep?
Backset on the SDL688 is 1-1/2 inches, which is the common storm and screen door backset, so if your current latch measures 1-1/2 inches from the door edge to the handle center, the handle holes line up. The mortise pocket is the part to check, the face plate is 3-1/4 x 3/4 inches, and the escutcheon plates are 6 x 1-1/2 inches, which will cover a fair amount of old fastener holes on the door face. If your current latch is a tubular type in a bored hole rather than a mortise pocket, this is not a drop in, the edge has to be mortised.
4) What finishes does the Deltana SDL688 storm door latch come in?
Nine finishes: PVD Polished Brass, Polished Brass, Antique Brass, Oil Rubbed Bronze, Brushed Nickel, Antique Nickel, Polished Chrome, Brushed Chrome, and Paint Black. If you are matching a run of units, PVD Polished Brass is the one to pick for exterior exposure over standard polished brass, since PVD is a plated coating rather than a lacquered brass surface.
5) How far does the Deltana SDL688 knob stick out from the door?
