Deltana SDS375U15 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the Deltana SDS375 a spring stop or a rigid stop?
It's a rigid steel baseboard bumper, not a spring. The body is solid steel with a bumper tip at the end, so the door contacts the tip and stops. If you want the flexing action of a coil spring stop, Sure-Loc's 3-3/4 inch spring door stop or Orca Hardware's 3-3/4 inch spring door stop are the same nominal length in a spring style.
2) Does the Deltana SDS375 mount to the baseboard or to the floor?
Baseboard. The SDS375 is a baseboard-mounted bumper, so it fastens to the trim at the wall and the door swings into the tip. If your door swings over carpet or the baseboard is too thin or hollow to take a fastener reliably, a floor-mounted bumper is the better choice; Delaney's 2 inch round solid brass floor bumper is that style.
3) I need a door stop that also holds the door open. Does the Deltana SDS375 do that?
No. The SDS375 is a bumper that stops the door swing; it does not latch the door open. For a hold-open, the Orca Hardware TH-30HD is a heavy duty rigid door stop with a door holder function, and the Hager 212 is an adjustable rigid door stop with an 80 to 120 degree range. Those are door-mounted units rather than baseboard bumpers, so the mounting prep is different.
4) I do not know exactly how far the door swings past the baseboard. Is there a door stop that adjusts instead of a fixed length like the SDS375?
Yes. The Deltana SDS375 is a fixed 3-3/4 inch baseboard bumper, so the projection is set. The Delaney 40201X baseboard door stop adjusts from 3-1/2 inches to 4-1/2 inches, which brackets the SDS375 length and lets you dial in the stopping point on site. Measure from the baseboard face to the door at full swing before you commit to either.
5) The baseboard in this unit is too thin to hold a bumper. What should I use instead of the Deltana SDS375?
The SDS375 is a baseboard-mounted bumper, so it needs a solid baseboard to anchor into. If the baseboard will not hold, move to the floor or the door. The Delaney 4029XX is a 2 inch high round solid brass floor bumper that mounts to the floor, and the Sure-Loc DS7 is a 4 inch solid door stop. Either takes the strike load off the trim.
6) Is the Sure-Loc DS4 the same thing as the Deltana SDS375 since both are 3-3/4 inch?
They share the 3-3/4 inch length but not the construction. The Deltana SDS375 is a rigid steel baseboard bumper with a 7/16 inch tip projection. The Sure-Loc DS4 is a 3-3/4 inch spring door stop for residential doors, meaning the shaft flexes on impact rather than standing rigid. Orca Hardware also lists a 3-3/4 inch spring door stop, the TH-3134. If you specifically want a rigid stop against the baseboard, the spring models are not a drop-in match.
7) Will a Deltana SDS375 baseboard bumper hold up in an apartment building or commercial corridor?
Deltana classifies the SDS375 as a residential product. It's steel rather than a plastic or hollow body, so it stands up to normal household use, but for high-traffic commercial openings a door stop rated for that duty is the better call. For a property manager standardizing interior unit doors, this is a reasonable fleet item; for a lobby or corridor, spec a commercial stop.
8) What finishes does the Deltana SDS375 come in, and can I match it to my existing door hardware?
Seven finishes: Oil Rubbed Bronze, Polished Nickel, Brushed Nickel, Antique Nickel, Polished Chrome, Polished Brass, and Antique Brass. That covers the common Deltana finish families, so if the levers and hinges on the opening are Deltana you can usually match the stop to them exactly.
9) How is the Deltana SDS375 packaged if I'm buying a case for a multi-unit job?
Sold individually, each one packed in its own poly bag. That means finishes can be mixed across an order without breaking a carton, which helps when different units in a building are on different finish schedules.
