Deltana SSS18518509SBU – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Is the Deltana SSS18518509SBU sink an undermount or a drop-in?
It's an undermount sink. The bowl mounts beneath the counter, so it needs a solid surface top (stone, quartz, solid surface) cut and polished for an undermount reveal, plus clips or a support frame in the cabinet. There is no deck flange for a drop-in cutout.
2) What size cabinet do I need for the Deltana 18-1/2 inch stainless sink?
The bowl measures 18-1/2 x 18-1/2 x 9 inches, so plan on a 24 inch base cabinet as the practical minimum once you allow for the counter overhang and clip hardware on an undermount install. At 9 inches deep it also eats vertical room in the cabinet, so check your trap arm height and any disposal before you commit.
3) Does the Deltana stainless sink come with a faucet or drain?
No. It's the bowl only. Because it's an undermount with no deck, there are no faucet holes drilled in the sink at all, so the faucet and any soap dispenser or air switch get mounted through the countertop. Order the strainer or disposal flange, tailpiece, and mounting clips separately.
4) Is 18 gauge thick enough for a kitchen sink?
This Deltana sink is 18 gauge stainless steel, which is the common weight for residential kitchen sinks. It's stiffer and quieter under running water than the 20 and 22 gauge bowls found on budget sinks, though heavy commercial work usually specs 16 gauge.
5) Can I use the Deltana SSS18518509SBU in a restaurant or commercial kitchen?
It's specified as a residential sink. For a food service application you want a sink carrying the ratings your health inspector looks for, so this one is the wrong pick for a commercial kitchen even though the 18 gauge steel is durable. Use it in apartments, rental turns, and single-family kitchens.
6) Is this a single bowl sink?
Yes, the SSS18518509SBU is a single 18-1/2 x 18-1/2 inch bowl, 9 inches deep. Nearly square and deep rather than wide, so it takes sheet pans and tall stock pots but gives you no divider for washing and rinsing separately.
7) What finish does the Deltana SSS18518509SBU come in?
Brushed stainless steel, and that's the only finish it's built in. A brushed surface hides water spots and light scratching better than a mirror polish, which is why it's the default on rental and multi-family turns.
