Design Hardware 5"x1/2" Panic ADA Thresholds

At 1/2 inch high, the Design Hardware 5 inch panic saddle threshold meets ANSI A117.1 accessibility codes. A 1/2 inch rise is the maximum allowed change in level at a doorway, so it works on an accessible egress opening without a ramped transition.

Three lengths: 36, 48 and 72 inches. A 36 inch piece covers a standard single 3-0 opening, 48 inches gives you cutting room on a wider single, and the 72 inch length is the one for a pair of 3-0 doors. Aluminum extrusion cuts cleanly on a miter saw, so order long and trim to the frame rabbet.

The Pemko 61 Series is an interlocking J hook threshold accessory in steel construction, 36 inches, which mates with an interlocking hook door bottom rather than serving as a walking saddle on its own. If you want a straightforward ADA-height crossing under a panic door, the 5 inch saddle is the piece; if your door already has an interlocking hook bottom, you need the matching J hook.

The same 5 inch x 1/2 inch profile carries the UL classification for hollow metal doors up to 3 hours and wood doors up to 1-1/2 hours, and meets ANSI A117.1, so one part number covers rated stair and corridor doors as well as ordinary entries. Stock the 36 and 72 inch lengths and cut to fit singles and pairs.

It's extruded from 6063-T5 aluminum alloy, the standard architectural extrusion temper used for thresholds and door bottoms. It won't rust like a steel saddle, and the ribbed 1/2 inch saddle profile takes foot traffic in a school, hospital or apartment entry. For exterior openings, set it in sealant and fasten through the flat web into the floor.
