Detex 100268-7 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is the Detex 100268-7 and what is it used for?
The 100268-7 is a Detex hex key used with sleeve filler components in Detex exit devices. It engages the sleeve filler so the part can be adjusted and secured properly during assembly or field service. It is a genuine Detex replacement part, not a complete exit device or a sleeve filler on its own.
2) Is the Detex 100268-7 hex key a tool or a part that stays in the door?
It's a service tool, not door-mounted hardware. Technicians use it to seat and adjust the sleeve filler in a Detex exit device, then it goes back in the toolbox. It is catalogued as a replacement part because Detex supplies it as an orderable item for maintaining those assemblies.
3) Will a generic hex wrench work instead of the Detex 100268-7?
The 100268-7 is made to Detex specifications for the sleeve filler engagement, so the profile matches that fastener and lets you apply torque without rounding it out. A mismatched off-the-shelf wrench is the usual way that hardware gets damaged. If you are servicing Detex exit devices regularly, use the Detex part.
4) Does ordering the Detex 100268-7 include the sleeve filler itself?
No. The 100268-7 covers the hex key only. If the sleeve filler component in your exit device is missing or damaged, that has to be ordered separately as its own Detex part.
5) Is the Detex 100268-7 suitable for commercial exit devices in schools and hospitals?
Yes. It is a commercial-grade item, and Detex exit devices in offices, schools, healthcare facilities, retail, warehouses, government buildings and multi-tenant residential are exactly where it gets used. Facility maintenance teams standardizing on Detex exit hardware typically keep one in the service kit.
