1) What is the difference between Detex A trim and AN trim?
It comes down to whether the trim hides an existing 161 lock prep in the door. The A trim escutcheon covers a 161 prep; the AN trim does not. If you're replacing a cylindrical lockset with a Detex Value Series exit device and want the old 2-1/8 inch bore hidden, order the A. On a door prepped fresh for the exit device with no 161 hole to conceal, the AN is the one you want.
2) Will Detex A/AN pull trim work on any exit device, or only Detex?
Only on Detex Value Series exit devices. The A/AN straight pull trim mounts to the Value Series device mounting plate, so it will not go onto a Von Duprin, Sargent, or Corbin Russwin device. If you're trimming another brand, match the device family instead: the Von Duprin 379L-BE blank escutcheon is for 55 Series rim devices, the Sargent 802 blank plate is for PE80 Series, and the Corbin Russwin K157ET key-only trim is for ED2200/ED2400.
3) Does the Detex 03 key retracts latch trim come with a cylinder?
Two ways to order it. The plain 03 - Key Retracts Latch ships without the cylinder, so you supply your own to match the building keyway. The 03 - Key Retracts Latch w/ Cylinder (Keying Alike) comes with a cylinder keyed alike. If you're a locksmith pulling this into an existing master key system, take the plain 03 and fit your own mortise cylinder. If you just need a set of doors that all take one key, the keyed alike version saves a step.
4) I need a blank plate on the outside of a Sargent exit device, not a pull. What do I order?
The Sargent 802 is a blank plate exit device trim with GTB design for PE80 Series devices, Grade 1, and is not wood door compatible. It differs from the Detex A/AN in that the Detex 02 dummy pull gives the outside a fixed straight pull to grab, while a blank plate covers the prep with no pull at all.
5) What should I use instead of the Detex A/AN 03 trim if the opening needs a lever rather than a pull?
Lever trims for exit devices are matched to the device series. The Corbin Russwin K157ET is a Grade 1 key only trim with rose for ED2200/ED2400 devices in classroom function, and the Arrow SRX87 is a Sierra lever with rose for S1150/S1250/ED910/PEC910 devices, classroom function, for 1-3/4 inch doors. The Detex A/AN 03 uses a key to retract the latch behind a straight pull instead of a lever.
6) What is the closest Sargent trim to the Detex 03 key retracts latch pull?
The Sargent 814 PSB is a nightlatch pull exit device trim in the 80 Series, heavy duty, night latch function. Like the Detex A/AN 03, it pairs a pull with key control of the latch; the Detex version is built for Detex Value Series devices and comes in A trim that covers a 161 prep or AN trim that does not.
7) We need the door to unlock electrically on a card read. Does the Detex A/AN trim do that?
The Detex A/AN is mechanical trim - a dummy pull or a key retracts latch model. 10) I want an exit-only door with no outside entry. Which Detex trim should I order?
The 02 dummy pull with a blank escutcheon. There's no keyway and no latch retraction from outside, so people leave through the device and nobody comes back in that way, but you still get a proper pull for pulling the door shut. Choose the A escutcheon if there's an old 161 lock prep in the door to cover, the AN if there isn't.
11) Is the Sargent 862 offset pull a substitute for the Detex A/AN straight pull trim?
