1) What is the difference between the Detex CS940 and CS2940 remote alarm?
Power is the whole difference. The CS940 runs on a 9VDC battery alone. The CS2940 is externally powered, comes with an AC adapter, and keeps a 9VDC battery as backup so the alarm still sounds if building power drops. If the unit is going somewhere without a nearby outlet or you don't want to pull power, the CS940 is the one. For anything where a dead battery cannot be allowed to take the alert offline, spec the CS2940.
2) Should I order the flush mount or surface mount Detex CS900 remote alarm?
The suffix decides it. F is flush mount, which needs a wall cavity or box cut in for the body to sit inside. S is surface mount, which screws to the face of finished wall or block and needs no cutting. On existing masonry, tile, or anywhere you can't open the wall, take the S version. All four device models come both ways: CS940F, CS940S, CS2940F, CS2940S.
3) Does the Detex CS900 remote alarm need a key cylinder ordered with it?
No cylinder is required on any of the CS900/2900 remote alarms. They're secondary annunciators, not exit control locks, so there is nothing to key and nothing to add to your keying schedule. Silencing the main alarm resets the remote automatically, which is why there's no key reset on the unit itself.
4) Will a Detex remote alarm work on its own as a door alarm?
It won't. The CS900/2900 is a remote annunciator: it sounds only when a signal is sent to it from a door switch or another alarm system. There is no door contact or exit device sensing built in. If you need the alarm on the door itself, you want a Detex exit control lock or alarmed exit device as the primary, and this unit as the second sounder down the hall or at a manned desk.
5) How loud is the Detex CS900 remote alarm, and will staff hear it away from the door?
100dB. That carries through a corridor or across an open retail floor, which is the point of putting one at a front desk or security office while the primary alarm sits on the exit door. A red LED lights when it sounds, so it also registers in a noisy back-of-house or where staff are wearing hearing protection.
6) Does someone have to reset the Detex remote alarm after it sounds?
Not at the remote. Silencing the main alarm resets the remote automatically, so the only trip anyone makes is to the door where the alarm originated. That matters on a multi-tenant or school property where the annunciator is in an office and the door is three floors away.
