9) Is the Cal-Royal 9860 an equivalent substitute for the Detex V50?
They are both surface vertical rod exit devices, but they are not on the same grade line. The Cal-Royal 9860 is a Grade 2 heavy duty device, exit only and not fire rated. The Detex V50 is Grade 1 heavy-duty and can be ordered fire rated. If the drawing calls for Grade 1 or the opening is a fire rated pair, the 9860 will not answer that spec.
10) What is the difference between cylinder dogging and hex dogging on the Detex V50?
Hex dogging holds the pushbar down with a hex key, which is fine on a back-of-house or maintenance-controlled door. Cylinder dogging uses a keyed cylinder, so only someone with the key can dog the door open. Less dogging is the third option, and it's the one you take on a fire rated opening.
