Dexter C2000-DL-234-630 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Dexter C2000 deadlatch work in a door already prepped for a 2-3/4 inch backset?
Yes. The C2000 deadlatch is a 2-3/4 inch backset latch, so it drops into an opening bored on the 2-3/4 inch centerline. If the door is prepped at 2-3/8 inches, this is the wrong latch for it, 2-3/8 and 2-3/4 are the two standard cylindrical backsets and they are not interchangeable in the same prep.
2) What door thickness does the Dexter C2000 deadlatch fit?
1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inch doors, which covers standard 1-3/4 inch commercial doors and the thinner 1-3/8 inch interior doors common in older buildings. Anything thicker than 1-3/4 inches is outside the range.
3) Do I need to order the Dexter C2000 deadlatch handed for a left or right hand door?
No handing to specify. The C2000 deadlatch is non-handed, so the same part serves left and right hand openings, in or out swing. One part number covers every door in a building, which is what you want when you are stocking spares.
4) Which C2000 lock functions does this Dexter deadlatch replace?
It is the latch for the Entry/Classroom, Classroom, and Storeroom functions in the Dexter C2000 cylindrical line. Those are the keyed lockset functions, so this is the internal latch unit, not the lockset itself, you are buying it to repair or rebuild a C2000 lock that is already on the door.
5) What size latch faceplate does the Dexter C2000 deadlatch have, and will it fit my existing mortise cutout in the door edge?
The faceplate measures 1 x 2-1/4 inches with a square corner and beveled face. If the door edge is already mortised for a C2000 latch, the cutout matches. A door prepped for a radius corner faceplate will need the corners squared or a filler, the square corner will not seat in a rounded mortise.
6) Is the Dexter C2000 latch rated for a fire door?
The C2000 Series cylindrical locks are UL listed for 3 hour openings and carry a Grade 2 rating for commercial use. If you are servicing a labeled fire door with a C2000 lock, replacing the latch with the correct C2000 component keeps the assembly to what was originally listed.
7) Is the Dexter C2000 deadlatch keyed, and does it come with a cylinder?
The deadlatch is a non-keyed component. Keying lives in the lockset cylinder, not here, so ordering this part does not affect or change how the door is keyed. If you need to rekey the opening you are dealing with the C2000 lock cylinder, not the latch.
8) What strike does the Dexter C2000 keyed function latch use?
The keyed C2000 functions ship with an ANSI 1-1/4 x 4-7/8 inch curved lip strike, part 30-148. That is the full ANSI frame prep, not the small T-strike, so if the frame is only cut for a 1-1/4 x 2-1/4 inch T-strike you will be enlarging the frame mortise or reusing the existing strike.
