Dexter ED1500-EXTRD-SP Extension Rod Assembly, 12", for ED1500 Exit Devices

The Adams Rite 3700 Series 30-inch fire-rated narrow stile rim exit device lists wood door compatibility as Yes and carries a Grade 1 rating, which makes it the one in the comparable range that covers a labeled wood opening. The non-fire-rated Adams Rite 8700 Series 30-inch device also lists wood door compatibility as Yes if the opening is not labeled. Both are narrow stile devices with starwheel interlocking.

The ED1500 devices need a 4-1/4 inch minimum stile width, so an extension rod does not help on a thinner stile. Two painted finishes: SP28 aluminum painted (689) and SP313 dark bronze painted (695). Those are the same two finishes Dexter publishes for the ED1500 devices themselves, so specify the rod in the finish code already on the door and it matches the device.

No handing to call out. All ED1500 devices and trim are non-handed, so the same part works on a left or right hand door and you do not need to know the swing before ordering.

The Corbin Russwin ED4200 Grade 1 36-inch narrow stile device and the Corbin Russwin ED5200 Grade 1 36-inch device are both listed as exit only and accepts trim, so either can take outside trim on the same opening. The Sargent 8504 is a narrow stile Grade 1 device in night latch function, and the Detex V4003A/03AN is a Grade 1 wide stile rim device supplied with night latch trim. Those are the routes to outside access when an ED1500 with an extension rod would leave the door exit only.

Rim exit devices built for 48-inch openings include the Corbin Russwin ED3200 Grade 1 48-inch crossbar device, the CRL Jackson 1095 Series 48-inch crossbar panic device, the Cal-Royal 5500 48-inch push bar device, the Dormakaba 9300 Series 48-inch wide stile device, and the Marks USA M9900F 48-inch fire-rated device. The Sargent 2828 and 3828 are both built for a 48-inch minimum door width as well, and both are Grade 1 reversible exit-only devices.

Hex key dogging is standard on all ED1500 panic devices. Among comparable rim devices, the Design Hardware 1000R at 33 inches and the Design Hardware 2000R at 33 inches both include hex key dogging, and the Stanley Security QED200 Series narrow stile device is a Grade 1 heavy duty device with hex-key dogging. The 1000R is a heavy duty device and the 2000R is standard duty, so the two Design Hardware options differ in duty level rather than in the dogging method.

Electrified rim hardware handles that. The SDC S6136 Spectra S6000 Series is a 36-inch electrified architectural rim exit device with a 4-inch wide stile and a 1-3/4 inch to 2 inch door thickness range. The SDC MSB550 Series 36-inch mechanical switch bar releases an electromagnetic lock, and the SDC SureExit PSB560 Series 36-inch pressure sense bar uses tri-failsafe technology; both suit narrow or wide stile. The Dormakaba E2103 with 4908A trim is a 36-inch electrified rim device in classroom function, and the Securitron EMB is an electromechanical exit bar for a 2-1/4 inch door.

It is commercial hardware, Grade 1, with an aluminum mechanism case and dead latching as standard. That is the duty level property managers and MRO buyers standardize on for corridor, stairwell, and exterior egress doors rather than light residential use.
