Dolans E3 2243D – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the AED sign come with mounting screws or anchors?
No. The sign ships with pre-drilled mounting holes only; fasteners are not included. You supply what suits the substrate, so plan on toggles or drywall anchors for gypsum board, plastic anchors and screws for masonry or block, and plain screws into a stud or wood trim.
2) Can this AED sign be used outdoors?
It is built for indoor use and moderate outdoor exposure. The body is rigid plastic and the graphics are silk-screened in UV fade-resistant ink, so it holds its color better than a paper or adhesive label. For a fully exposed exterior wall in harsh weather, treat it as a covered-entry or soffit application rather than a permanent open-weather sign.
3) Should I use a flat wall sign or a projecting 3D sign to mark an AED cabinet?
A flat sign only reads when someone is facing the wall. The Dolans 3D AED sign uses two angled panels standing off the wall, so it is visible from both directions along a hallway, which is how people approach an AED in an emergency. Use flat wall decals for the cabinet face itself and the projecting sign above or beside it for corridor identification. In an open lobby or gym where people approach head-on, a flat sign is usually enough.
4) Is this sign for a fire extinguisher or for an AED?
It reads AED, for an automated external defibrillator location. If you are marking fire extinguisher locations you need an extinguisher sign or arrow instead, not this one, even though both are wall-mounted emergency identification signs of similar size.
