Dorma 15120 1-1/2" Offset Brass Top Pivot, Satin Chrome

That's exactly what it's built for. The 15120 is the standard top pivot for most Dorma 1-1/2 inch offset pivot sets and floor closers, so if your opening is already set up on a 1-1/2 inch offset, it pairs with the bottom arrangement you have. It's a full mortise part, so the door and frame need to be prepped for a mortised top pivot rather than a surface-applied one.

Up to 660 lbs. That covers heavy commercial entrances, thick glass and metal doors, and lead-lined or acoustic doors that would overload a lighter pivot. It's rated heavy duty for commercial openings, not a residential-grade part.

Machine screws are furnished with the pivot, so mounting fasteners are covered. What is not included is the bottom half of the arrangement: the top pivot alone does not hang a door. You still need the matching bottom pivot or floor closer on a 1-1/2 inch offset, and the door and frame have to be mortised for it.

No. The 15120 is designed for flush door and frame conditions. If your frame is recessed or the door sits in a pocket rather than flush, an offset top pivot cut for flush conditions won't line up. For a recessed aluminum condition, the Kaba Ilco IL-OP-10 Series is a 1/8 inch recessed Arch/Vistawall pivot set built for that geometry instead.

The Dorma 15120 top pivot is a full mortise part designed for flush door and frame conditions and is offset hung at 1-1/2 inches. Aluminum storefront doors and frames are a different prep: the Kaba Ilco IP-10, IP-12 and IP-22 series are intermediate pivots made specifically for aluminum doors and frames, and the Kaba Ilco IL-OP-10 series is a 1/8 inch recessed pivot set for Arch and Vistawall aluminum framing. The IP-12 series is non handed. All four Kaba Ilco series are standard duty rather than heavy duty, and none carry a fire rating, so they suit non rated aluminum entrances.

No handing to specify. The 15120 is non-handed, so one part serves both left and right hand doors. That also means you can stock a single pivot for a building with openings swinging both ways.

The Dorma 15120 top pivot is rated for doors up to 660 lbs. Among the Ives offset pivot sets, the 7212 is a heavy duty brass offset pivot set with a 200 lb capacity and a top header mount, the 7212V is the same 200 lb brass set with a jamb mount instead, and the 7215 is a heavy duty brass offset set with 500 lb capacity and a header mount. All three are fire rated. The choice between 7212 and 7212V is a mounting question - header versus jamb - while the step from 7212 to 7215 is a door weight question.

The Dorma 15120 is the top half of the arrangement - a top pivot for most Dorma 1-1/2 inch offset pivot sets and floor closers, furnished with machine screws. The bottom of an offset hung door is carried either by a floor closer or by a bottom pivot: the Hager 497 is a heavy duty forged bronze full mortise bottom pivot hinge with a ball bearing. The Hager 497 is not fire rated, so on a rated opening the pivot hardware has to be selected to the rating rather than mixed in.

One finish only: 626, satin chrome. If you're matching a building already standardized on 626 hardware, it drops straight in; the body underneath is brass.

No. It's a purely mechanical, non-electronic pivot, so there's nothing to wire and nothing that stops working when power drops. Access control or electrified hardware on the opening runs through separate devices.
