DORMA 703F Series

700 Series - Standard duty stops/holders

900 Series - Heavy duty stops/holders

Functions

S - Stop Only
F - Friction Stop
H - Stop/Hold

Stop only units (S function) are designed to limit the degree of door swing while providing a cushioned stop. These units are a good choice for use on labeled fire doors where hold open is prohibited.

Stop/Hold units (H function) function like stop only units with an added selective on/off hold open feature. An inconspicuous slot screw on the face of the track channel allows field engagement/disengagement of hold open. Stop/hold is recommended where non-labeled doors must be held in the open position.

Friction/Stop (F function) units provide a cushioned limiting stop and adjustable friction stay. The accessible screw on top of the slide shoe allows field adjustment of the friction. This option provides a method of holding non- labeled doors at multiple positions without readjustment. Available in 700/710 Series only.

Product details

Durable and visually pleasing

Separate stops and holders are the preferred method of limiting door swing. They are ideal where the use of wall or floor stops is precluded. The 700/900 Series high quality units are both durable and visually pleasing.

Highest quality materials

DORMA stops and holders are designed and manufactured from the highest quality materials to provide optimum service under heavy-duty use.

Different finishes available

A standard two-coat paint finish is the best choice to match sprayed DORMA door closers. Optional plated finishes are also available.

Dormakaba 703F 689 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What door opening range does this DORMA 703F friction stop accommodate?
The DORMA 703F standard duty friction stop is designed for door openings between 36-1/8" and 54". Verify your door width falls within this range before installation.
2) How is this friction stop mounted to the door?
This is a surface-applied friction stop that mounts directly to the door surface. No mortising required. Use manufacturer-specified fasteners for secure attachment to door material.
3) What door weights can the 703F standard duty model handle?
Standard duty friction stops typically handle lighter commercial and heavy residential doors. Check DORMA specifications for exact weight limits. For heavy commercial doors, consider heavy duty models.
4) Does this friction stop work on both left and right hand doors?
Most DORMA friction stops are reversible for left or right hand applications. Confirm handing requirements and installation orientation per manufacturer template before mounting.
5) What finishes are available for the DORMA 703F?
DORMA friction stops commonly come in aluminum, bronze, and other architectural finishes. Contact us to verify available finish options for this specific model.
6) Are there building code considerations for friction stops?
Friction stops must not interfere with required door operation or egress. Verify local code requirements for door hardware. Position stop to allow proper door function and accessibility compliance.
7) What tools are needed for installation?
Basic installation requires drill, appropriate drill bits for door material, screwdriver, and measuring tools. Follow DORMA installation template for precise positioning and fastener locations.
8) Can the friction be adjusted after installation?
Many DORMA friction stops feature adjustable tension mechanisms. Refer to manufacturer instructions for proper adjustment procedures. Make small incremental changes to achieve desired door control.
9) How do I determine exact mounting position?
Use the DORMA installation template for precise positioning. Mounting location depends on door construction and desired stop angle. Ensure adequate clearance from other hardware components.
10) Are replacement parts available for this model?
DORMA typically provides replacement components for their friction stops. Common replacement parts include friction mechanisms and mounting hardware. Contact us for specific part availability.
11) What's the difference between standard and heavy duty friction stops?
Standard duty models handle lighter doors with moderate use cycles. Heavy duty versions accommodate heavier doors and high-traffic applications with enhanced durability and stronger friction mechanisms.
