These Dormakaba® Center-Hung Bottom Arms should be used with doors having a minimum 3/4" (19mm) deep bottom rail. Arms will accommodate most door types, and are designed for easy centering adjustment of aluminum or bottom rail doors. They can be used with all Floor Closers using the Dormakaba style 7/8" (22 mm) flat tapered type spindle.

1) What bottom rail depth does the Dorma BTS center hung bottom arm need?
The center-hung bottom arm needs a door with a bottom rail at least 3/4 inch (19mm) deep. Shallower rails won't take the arm, so measure the rail on the door before ordering. It's built for aluminum and bottom rail doors, with centering adjustment so you can dial the door in on the pivot line.
2) Will the Dorma BTS bottom arm fit my floor closer spindle?
It mates with any Dormakaba floor closer that uses the 7/8 inch (22mm) flat tapered spindle. That spindle profile is the whole compatibility test here: if the closer in the floor has the Dorma-style 7/8 inch flat tapered spindle, the arm drops on. A closer with a different spindle shape or size won't take it.
3) Is the 7422 arm for center hung or offset pivot doors?
Center hung only. The 7422 is the bottom arm that connects a center-hung door to the floor closer spindle, so the door pivots on the closer centerline. If your opening is set up for an offset pivot, this arm is the wrong geometry for it.
4) Can I use the Dorma 7422 bottom arm on a wood or hollow metal door, or is it aluminum only?
Aluminum storefront doors are the main target, but the arm accommodates most door types as long as the door has a bottom rail of at least 3/4 inch (19mm) deep to mount into. Rail depth, not door material, is what rules it in or out.
5) Do I get the whole floor closer with the Dorma 7422, or just the arm?
Just the bottom arm. The 7422 is the replacement hardware that ties a center-hung door to a floor closer already in the slab, for the Dorma style 7/8 inch flat tapered spindle. The closer body, cement case, and top pivot are separate items.
6) My storefront door has dropped and drags on the threshold. Will a new Dorma BTS bottom arm let me realign it?
It will let you re-center the door side to side: the arm is made for easy centering adjustment on aluminum or bottom rail doors, which is how you square the door back up in the frame after it has shifted on the pivot. A worn or damaged arm is a common cause of that drift, and replacing it restores the connection to the closer spindle.
