It's a heavy-duty cushion arm for Dorma door closers, used in either regular arm or top jamb mounting. The cushion stop built into the arm absorbs the shock of a door being thrown open and limits how far it swings, which is what you want on high-traffic commercial openings and doors exposed to wind. It is sold as a replacement part, so it goes on an existing closer body rather than as a complete closer.
2) Can I use the MD IS arm for both regular arm and top jamb mounting?
Yes, the same arm serves both. Regular arm puts the closer body on the pull side of the door with the arm reaching to the frame face; top jamb mounts the body on the frame with the arm to the door. What it does not cover is parallel arm mounting, which uses a different arm and a soffit bracket.
3) What finishes does the Dorma MD IS closer arm come in?
Three: 689 anodized aluminum, 693 black, and 695 dark duranodic bronze. On a storefront, 695 is the usual match for bronze-anodized aluminum framing and 689 for clear-anodized. If you're standardizing a building, pick the one that matches the closer bodies already hung.
