Dormakaba 24527-000-01 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does the Dormakaba 24527-000-01 tailpiece kit actually do inside the lock?
The 24527-000-01 is the tailpiece that links the lock cylinder to the lock body. Turning the key rotates the cylinder, the tailpiece carries that motion into the lock so the cam actuates and the latch or bolt retracts. If a key turns freely but nothing moves in the door, a worn or wrong tailpiece is one of the usual causes.
2) Will the 24527-000-01 tailpiece fit a residential lockset?
No. The 24527-000-01 is a commercial-rated part built for Dormakaba commercial mechanical lock assemblies. It is not intended for residential locksets, and it is specific to Dormakaba lock bodies rather than a universal tailpiece that can be cut to length for any brand of cylinder.
3) Is the Dormakaba 24527-000-01 a genuine factory part or an aftermarket copy?
It's a genuine Dormakaba replacement part, sold under the manufacturer's own model number 24527-000-01 and built to the same specification as the component fitted at the factory. For facilities running Dormakaba hardware, that matters: the tailpiece engagement is a close-tolerance fit and a generic substitute is where most cam-actuation complaints start.
4) How do I order the right Dormakaba tailpiece for my lock?
Order by the Dormakaba part number. This kit is 24527-000-01 and ships as a single configuration, so there is no finish, handing, or length to specify. Match the number against the parts breakdown for your Dormakaba lock body before ordering, since tailpieces within the same brand are not interchangeable across lock families.
5) We maintain Dormakaba locks across a school campus. Is this a part worth stocking on the truck?
For a facility standardized on Dormakaba mechanical locks, yes. The tailpiece is a service-and-repair item, the piece you replace when a cylinder has been swapped or the link to the lock body has worn out, and it turns a dead lock into a working one without pulling the whole assembly. Typical use runs across offices, schools, healthcare, retail, government buildings, warehouses, and multi-tenant residential properties.
