Dormakaba 34234-026-01 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Dormakaba 34234 lever kit accept a Medeco, Yale or ASSA large format interchangeable core?
That is exactly what the 34234 outside lever kit is built for. It is machined to take Large Format Interchangeable Core cylinders from Medeco, Yale, and ASSA, so a facility already keyed into one of those LFIC systems can drop its existing core into the lever without rekeying the building. Small format (SFIC, 6 or 7 pin figure-eight) cores are a different cylinder format and are not what this kit is prepped for.
2) Is the Dormakaba 34234 the inside or the outside lever?
Outside only. The 34234 supplies the exterior-facing lever trim, which is the half that carries the keyed LFIC cylinder. If both sides of the door are worn or damaged, you will need the matching inside trim as a separate line item to complete the assembly.
3) What is the difference between the Dormakaba 34234 outside LFIC lever kit and the Corbin Russwin 483F80 outside lever and spindle?
The Dormakaba 34234 is an outside lever kit built for Large Format Interchangeable Core cylinders from Medeco, Yale, and ASSA, supplied in Bright Chrome and intended to replace outside lever trim on an existing Dormakaba installation. The Corbin Russwin 483F80 is an outside lever and spindle from the ML2000 Series, rated Grade 1, in a Corridor/Dormitory function and sized for a 1-3/4 inch thick door. So the choice follows the lock body already in the door: the 34234 keeps a Dormakaba LFIC assembly intact, while the 483F80 serves an ML2000 mortise lock.
4) What finish is the Dormakaba 34234 lever kit, and will it match other chrome trim in the building?
It is supplied in Bright Chrome, listed as 625 on the option and as 026 in the model designation 34234-026-01. Bright Chrome is the polished chrome finish, so it sits alongside other 625/026 polished chrome levers and pulls rather than the satin 626 finish. If the rest of the openings are satin chrome, this lever will read noticeably brighter next to them.
5) Does the 34234 lever kit come with a cylinder or core?
No core is included. The 34234 is trim only, prepped to receive an LFIC cylinder from a Medeco, Yale, or ASSA system, which you supply from your own keying program or order separately. Plan on a core and the matching inside trim to finish the opening.
6) Does the Corbin Russwin 483F80 lever work as a substitute for the Dormakaba 34234?
They are not interchangeable. The Corbin Russwin 483F80 is an ML2000 Series outside lever and spindle assembly for a 1-3/4 inch thick door, while the Dormakaba 34234 is a genuine Dormakaba replacement lever kit made to original equipment specifications for Medeco, Yale, and ASSA LFIC cylinder systems. Trim spindles and cylinder prep are series-specific, so match the kit to the manufacturer of the lock chassis in the door rather than cross-substituting.
7) For a Grade 1 specification on a commercial opening, how do the Dormakaba 34234 and Corbin Russwin 483F80 compare?
The Corbin Russwin 483F80 is stated as Grade 1 in the ML2000 Series, which is the figure to cite when a drawing calls out an ANSI/BHMA grade for the lever and spindle. The Dormakaba 34234 is a commercial replacement lock trim component for Medeco, Yale, and ASSA LFIC cylinders; where a specification is written around an existing Dormakaba LFIC assembly, it is the genuine part that preserves that assembly's original fit and finish.
8) Is the Dormakaba 34234 lever kit rated for commercial traffic or is it a residential part?
Commercial. It is a commercial lock trim component intended for offices, schools, healthcare, government buildings, retail, multi-tenant properties, and warehouse facilities running Dormakaba hardware. It is not sold as residential-duty trim.
