Dormakaba 801278-026-01 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What exactly is the Dormakaba 801278 trim plate, and is it a lock or just the plate?
It's the trim plate only, not a lock. The 801278-026-01 is a replacement mounting plate that covers the door face on compatible Dormakaba mechanical lock installations. You'd order it when the original plate is damaged, painted over, or being swapped to match a finish, and reuse the lock hardware behind it.
2) Does the 801278 trim plate have a deadbolt cutout?
No. The 801278 is the no-deadbolt version, made without a deadbolt cutout. If your opening has a deadbolt above the latch, this plate will cover that prep and you need the deadbolt-cutout version of the unified trim plate instead.
3) I'm replacing a worn trim plate on a Dormakaba lock, do I need to pull the whole lock out?
The 801278 is sold as a direct replacement plate for compatible Dormakaba lock configurations, so the swap is the plate itself rather than the lock body. Before ordering, confirm two things on the door: that the existing plate has no deadbolt cutout, and that your other trim is bright chrome so the finish matches.
4) Is this trim plate suitable for commercial door traffic, or is it a residential part?
It's a commercial part. Dormakaba lists the 801278 as commercial-grade and it's used on office, school, healthcare, retail, warehouse, multi-tenant residential, and government openings. For a property manager standardizing a building, it's the same plate across all those door types as long as the lock behind it is a compatible Dormakaba mechanical lock.
