Dormakaba FC 693 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What finishes does the Dormakaba FC full cover door closer cover come in?
Six finishes: 689 aluminum, 690 dark bronze, 691 light bronze, 693 black, 695 dark bronze, and 696 satin brass. If you're matching covers across a building, pick the number that's already stamped on your existing hardware rather than going by the color name alone, since both 690 and 695 read as dark bronze.
2) Can I just replace the cover on my Dormakaba door closer instead of the whole unit?
That's exactly what the FC full cover is for. It's a replacement cover part, so a cracked, dented or mismatched shell can be swapped out while the closer body stays on the door. The mechanism itself is untouched, so there's no re-adjustment of closing speed or backcheck involved in the swap.
3) What is the difference between a full cover and a partial or half cover on a door closer?
A full cover encloses the entire closer body, hiding the valves, arm shoulder and mounting screws for a finished look on a door people see. A partial cover leaves part of the body exposed, which is common where the closer sits above a ceiling line or in back-of-house areas and appearance doesn't matter. The Dormakaba FC is the full-enclosure version, so choose it when the closer is on a lobby, corridor or storefront door.
4) I manage a building with mismatched door closer covers. Can I standardize with the FC?
Yes, provided the closers are Dormakaba units the FC is compatible with. Ordering one finish code across every opening (say 693 black or 689 aluminum) gets the whole building reading the same without touching the closer bodies. Check the model stamped on each closer first, because a mixed fleet of brands will need more than one part.
5) Is the FC cover suitable for high-traffic commercial doors, or is it a residential part?
It's a commercial part. Dormakaba lists the FC full cover under its commercial hardware line, and it's used on office buildings, schools, hospitals, retail, government facilities, multi-tenant residential and warehouse openings. For a property manager standardizing corridor and entry doors, it's the right class of part for doors people use all day.
6) Does the FC cover protect the closer or is it purely cosmetic?
Both. Beyond giving the installation a finished appearance, the full cover shields the internal closer components from knocks, dust and tampering, which is worth having on school corridors and warehouse openings where hardware takes abuse.
