InSync locks work together with SAM RF software to create a single system that manages both key and access control at perimeter entries, amenity and utility doors as well as apartment or bedroom doors. With the InSync system, administrators only need to program the locks once; the software continually manages critical informational changes such as access privileges and move ins/outs. This information is delivered automatically to each lock via the InSync key once the “New” version of the key is created and used in the locks. Only one key is required for use at multiple access points, creating a convenient and efficient “No Touring” user experience. InSync lock models accommodate virtually all door types and preparations, and common area/amenity applications. The InSync Access Control System has different configurations to accommodate various applications, from unit and suite to elevator and pool access. 

 

InSync I and D Unit Locks

The I and D unit configurations provide operational functionality for individual entry doors. Rotation of the inside thumbturn or the inserted RFID key extends or retracts the 1" dead bolt locking or unlocking the door. In the locked position, only duplicate resident and authorized service keys can access the unit. Unit locks are programmed with one resident code (change key). Each key made with one resident code can have up to 64 unique identity codes.

 

InSync M and L Unit Locks

The M and L unit configurations provide true residential entry lock functionality. Each time the inside lever is rotated, the lock goes into a “toggled” condition which eliminates the possibility of lock outs. When the key is inserted into the lock after egress, the lock is placed back into a locked position. An audit trail is created and stored within the lock for each occurrence. The inside thumbturn, when turned, will toggle the lock between unlocked and locked. Multiple residents can have access to the same unit if needed. All residents are completely unique in the system and are tracked individually.

 

InSync I, D, M and L Suite Locks

The suite configuration allows ingress and egress to multiple residents who need to access individual unit doors located behind the suite door. A resident uses the InSync I and D suite locks just like a traditional door lock.  The resident throws the dead bolt using the interior thumbturn or rotating the key in the lock after ingress or egress to relock the door. M and L suite locks have no interior thumbturn and always remain in a locked position after ingress or egress. Suite locks can recognize up to 20 unique resident codes.

 

InSync RAC Common Area Access

InSync RAC and CP products are available as either standalone battery- operated door locks or hard-wired AC/DC electrically powered devices designed to work in conjunction with other electronic latching hardware.
RAC works in conjunction with remote access points including elevators, outdoor pools, roll-up garage doors, parking arms, electric strikes, magnets, and telephone entry systems.

1) Is the InSync ASM mortise lock approved for a fire rated apartment entry door?
Yes. The InSync ASM mortise models are UL certified for use on fire doors at either a 20 minute or a 3 hour rating. That covers both the 20 minute corridor-side apartment entry door and 3 hour rated stair or separation openings. The levers and thumbturns on the mortise models are ADA compliant as well.
2) Does the RMA100C work on its own, or do I need other equipment to run it?
The lock is standalone battery power, four AA cells, with no wiring to the door. But it is not a program-at-the-keypad lock: InSync locks are set up through SAM RF software, and the Windows software, the key encoder, and the handheld utility device used to program the locks are all sold separately. If you are starting a building from zero, budget for those three items plus the locks. If you already run SAM RF, this lock joins the existing system.
3) Is the RMA100C right for a lobby or pool door, or is it meant for apartment doors?
This one is built in the Common configuration, which Dormakaba specifies for perimeter entries and amenity spaces, so lobby, fitness room, mail room and pool gates are the intended openings. Unit is the configuration for apartment entries, offices and utility rooms; Suite is for multiple leases behind one door such as student housing. Ordering a Common lock for a resident unit door gets you the wrong access behavior, so match the configuration to the opening before you order.
4) Do I have to order handing on the Dormakaba InSync mortise lock?
Handing matters here. This is the right hand build with the Continental lever, so it is not field reversible the way a mechanical mortise lock body often is. Stand outside the door: if the hinges are on your right and the door swings away from you, right hand is correct. Get it backwards and the lever points the wrong way. Several mechanical mortise bodies we carry, like the BEST 45H public entrance body, are field reversible instead, but the electronic InSync is ordered handed.
5) What else could I use instead of a Dormakaba InSync mortise lock for a multifamily common area door?
If you want RFID credentials in a mortise body from another brand, the TownSteel FME-2000 Series is a Grade 1 heavy duty mortise lockset with RFID for 1-3/4 inch doors, and the Schlage Electronics LEMD-GRW is a Grade 1 ENGAGE wireless mortise lock with a 125kHz proximity reader and a 3 hour fire rating. Yes, but not with this lock. The mortise lock secures a door leaf; remote access points such as elevators, outdoor pools, roll-up garage doors, parking arms, electric strikes, magnets and telephone entry systems are handled by the InSync RAC remote access controller, which switches electronic strikes and magnetic latches up to 24 volts AC/DC and works as an elevator control unit with a single relay. RAC comes flush or surface mount and can be battery operated or hard-wired AC/DC. For common area doors already on rim or surface vertical rod exit hardware, the CP unit is the piece that interfaces with the exit device.
14) What happens to a battery operated InSync lock if the batteries die with someone locked out?
The lock runs on four AA batteries at the door. Dormakaba's answer for a dead battery on the SAM RF platform is the R20470 SAM RF Emergency Lock Power Supply (ELPS), a handheld unit that powers the lock long enough to open it and swap cells. If you are standardizing a building on InSync, keep at least one ELPS with the maintenance staff.
15) Is there a simpler mechanical mortise lock to use on an apartment door instead of the electronic Dormakaba InSync RMA100C?
Yes.
