DormaKaba K-Sf-1K Smart Fob (1K Memory)

The K-SF-1K fob is made for Keyscan K-SMART3, K-SMART and K-SKPR readers. If the openings in your building are running any of those three, the fob presents to them directly. Readers outside that list are not covered by the fob's stated application.

The K-SF-1K is a 36 bit credential. If your access control system is already programmed for 36 bit Keyscan credentials, the fob drops into the same format. If your site is running a different bit format, the fob will read but the system will not interpret the number the way you expect, so the format has to match before you order a batch.

The K-SF-1K is built against that specifically. It carries K-Secure anti-counterfeiting protection plus multiple anti-duplication technologies and AES multilayer encryption. That is the difference between this and a basic 125 kHz prox tag, which copies in seconds on a cheap duplicator. For multi-family and commercial properties where residents copy fobs without permission, this is the credential class you want.

Read range is up to 3/4 inch. That is a present-and-touch credential, not a long-range one, so it will not read from inside a pocket or through a wallet held away from the reader. For tenants and staff it works fine at the door; for gate or vehicle applications that need a read from a distance, this is the wrong credential type.

It uses non-proprietary smartcard technology and complies with the ISO14443 international interoperability standard, which is what lets third party applications share the credential. For a campus or hospital that wants one fob to serve access control plus another ISO14443-based system, that is the relevant spec.

The K-SF-1K is the fob form factor, meant to ride on a keyring. A fob suits maintenance staff, contractors and residents who carry keys anyway, and it holds up better to daily handling than a flat card. Choose a card instead when you need a photo ID surface or a badge clip. Either way the reader side is the same Keyscan K-SMART3, K-SMART or K-SKPR hardware.

The fob carries 1K of memory, which is what makes it a smartcard credential rather than a plain proximity tag. The memory holds the secured credential data on the fob itself and is what supports shared use with other ISO14443 applications, instead of the reader simply reading a fixed number off the tag.

Both. The reader design that pairs with the K-SF-1K fob suits mullion mounting and single-gang plate installation, so a narrow aluminum storefront mullion and a standard single-gang box in a drywall opening are both covered without switching to a different reader model.
