Dormakaba PFT 689 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is the Dormakaba PFT bracket used for on a door closer installation?
The PFT is a mounting bracket for parallel flush transom applications. It gives a door closer a mounting surface at the transom when the opening's framing or available space won't allow a standard arm and shoe configuration. Think of it as the plate that lets the closer sit correctly and stay aligned, not as a closer or arm itself.
2) Will the PFT bracket work with any brand of door closer?
Treat it as a Dormakaba part. The PFT is part of the Dorma door closer parts and accessories line and is built to fit Dormakaba closers. If you are mounting another manufacturer's closer, use that maker's own transom bracket rather than assuming hole patterns line up.
3) What finishes does the Dormakaba PFT transom bracket come in?
Three finishes: 689 aluminum, 693 black, and 695 dark bronze. Those are the standard BHMA finish numbers, so matching the bracket to closers and other hardware already on your openings is a matter of ordering the same number your existing hardware carries.
4) Does the PFT include the door closer, or do I order that separately?
The PFT is the bracket only. It is an installation accessory, a mounting plate, so the closer body, arm and any required fasteners beyond what ships with the bracket come from the closer order. Order the closer first, confirm it is a Dormakaba unit, then add the PFT for the transom mount.
5) When do I need a parallel flush transom bracket instead of a standard drop plate?
A drop plate solves a shortfall of mounting surface on the door face or frame face. The PFT is the answer to a different problem: a flush transom above the opening where the closer has to mount in a parallel arm arrangement and the standard arm setup won't fit the framing. If your obstruction is at the transom rather than the head reveal, this is the bracket.
6) Is the PFT bracket suitable for a high-traffic commercial entrance, or is it a residential part?
It is a commercial-rated accessory, intended for commercial door hardware duty. Typical placements are office buildings, schools, healthcare facilities, retail, government buildings, multi-tenant residential and warehouse openings. A property manager standardizing closer hardware across a building can use the same bracket at every transom-mounted opening.
