Free Keying on all locks

Product Summary

Based on the PowerStar Technology, which has been used and manufactured for over 10 years, the PowerPlex Series utilizes new capacitor technology to store power longer and more efficiently. There is no handle pumping required to wake up the lock and the built-in super capacitors will hold a full charge for up to 10 weeks with no activity at the lock. The lock is perfect for small to mid-sized facilities, rarely visited remote locations, retail "Employees Only" areas and military facilities, just to name a few.

Product Details

Access Control: Electronic pushbutton lock eliminates problems and costs associated with issuing, controlling, and collecting keys and cards. Provides exterior access by PIN code, while allowing free egress.

PowerPlex 2000 locks are self-powered electronic locks that do not require batteries or other power sources. The lock generates its own power with every turn of the lever, making it the most efficient and versatile electronic lockset available with virtually no maintenance costs.

No Wires: Requires no wiring to or through the door — eliminates risk of damage from pinched wires that can result in costly callbacks.

Locking Device Options:

  • Cylindrical: Cylindrical latch with 3-hour UL/ULC fire rating
  • Exit Device: Compatible with most leading brands of Exit Devices; See list under “Exit Device Compatibility” (Exit Device and Mounting Hardware not included)
  • American Standard Mortise: With 1 ¼" (32 mm) face plate; with and without dead bolt, auto dead bolt also available

Number of Codes: Multiple Users — 100 Codes

Audit Trail: The most recent 1,000 lock events are recorded in memory, including use of the mechanical key override. Software is required to view audit events.

Programming: Locks are programmed via keypad or with optional Microsoft® Excel®-based software — simplifies management of doors and users as facility’s number of users and access points grow.

Handing: Non-handed; pre-assembled for left-hand door installations — easily changed in the field.

Key Override (Optional):

  • Optional Key-in-Lever cylinder in Schlage “C” Keyway with black cap
  • Small format — Best and equivalent (6 or 7-pin length)

Operation Modes:

  • PIN access
  • Passage — can be toggled on/off Lockout
  • Lockout

Authority Levels:
Five different levels allow who has access to specific lock functions, including:

Master Level— performs all set-up and programming functions
Manager Level— administers common programming functions
Access User Level— entry granted with valid PIN
Service Level— codes for single event or single day access, programmable in advance
Maintenance Level— no access is granted, information can be uploaded/downloaded to/from the lock

User Parameters:
Code length— Adjustable to accept 4 to 8 digits
Anti-tamper lockout— Adjustable from 3 to 9 invalid attempts with an adjustable period of 0 to 90 seconds
Relock time— Adjustable from 2 to 20 seconds

Lock Power:
Self Powering— dormakaba’s patented PowerStar™ technology supplies power for all electronic lock functions including programming users at the keypad without ever having to change batteries. Once the first digit of a valid code is entered to “wake up” the lock, the remainder of the code can be entered and access is granted. A full charge of the built-in super capacitors will last up to 10 weeks with no activity at the lock.

Dormakaba P201U-XS-LL-626-41 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Which exit devices does the Dormakaba PowerPlex P201U trim fit?
The PowerPlex P201U keypad trim is ordered against the device brand it will mount to. Three groupings are offered: one covering Detex, Dorma, Von Duprin, Precision, Arrow and Sargent devices; one specific to Von Duprin; and one for Yale and Corbin Russwin. All of them are for function 1 or 2 devices only. Pick the grouping that matches the device already on the door, because the mounting differs between them. Note that the exit device itself and the mounting hardware are separate items, not packed with the trim.
2) Does the PowerPlex 2000 electronic lock need batteries or wiring to the door?
Neither. The PowerPlex generates its own power from the lever turn using dormakaba's PowerStar technology, and stores it in built-in super capacitors that hold a full charge for up to 10 weeks with no activity at the lock. There is no handle pumping to wake it, no battery changes, and nothing to run through the door frame, so there are no pinched wire callbacks. For a remote site or an Employees Only door that nobody visits for weeks, that is the practical difference against a wired or battery trim.
3) What door prep does the PowerPlex exit trim need on an existing opening?
Exit trim and cylindrical versions install on ASA 161 prep with three additional through bore holes, in wood or metal doors. So a door already bored 161 for a cylindrical lock takes it with three extra holes drilled through. The mortise version is ASA 86 prep, again with three additional through bores.
4) Can I get a mechanical key override on the PowerPlex 2000 keypad trim, and can it go on my existing master key system?
Three override choices are offered. XS comes with a key-in-lever Kaba cylinder in the Schlage C keyway, so it drops into an existing Schlage C system. B accepts small format interchangeable cores, BEST and equivalents in 6 or 7 pin length, with the core supplied separately by you; note the B lever prep is not interchangeable with the others, so that choice is made at order time. The third option is a solid lever with no override at all. Whichever you pick, the audit trail records use of the mechanical key override along with the other events.
5) Is the dormakaba PowerPlex 2000 rated for a fire door and does it meet ADA?
It is UL 10C fire rated and meets the Americans with Disabilities Act accessibility standard. Durability is ANSI/BHMA Grade 1 certified under A156.25, A156.2, A156.13 and A156.3. The cylindrical latch version carries a 3 hour UL/ULC fire rating. That covers the paperwork an institutional spec usually asks for on a keypad lock.
6) What do I need besides the PowerPlex P201U trim to finish the job?
The exit device and the mounting hardware for it are separate purchases; the P201U is the outside trim only. If you order the B interchangeable core version, the small format core is also not included. The XS version is the only one that arrives with a cylinder in it. Egress is handled by the exit device from the inside, so nothing extra is needed for free egress; the keypad only controls entry from outside by PIN.
7) Should I use a self-powered keypad trim or an electrified exit trim wired to my access control?
They solve different problems. The PowerPlex is standalone: PIN codes stored in the lock, no wiring to the door, no panel to tie into, and it suits small to mid-sized facilities and remote sites where running power is not worth it. If you already have an access control head end and want the door on it, an electrified trim is the right call. Command Access makes the ET15, ET25 and ET26 series and a 230L for Von Duprin 230L applications, all with 12V/24V operation and fail safe or fail secure options. Von Duprin's own E360L-BE-03 is a Grade 1 fail safe electric passage trim for 33/35A devices. Those need power at the door; the PowerPlex does not.
8) Do I have to specify a hand when ordering the PowerPlex 2000?
No handing to specify. The lock is non-handed and field reversible; it arrives pre-assembled for a left hand door and is switched in the field for a right hand opening. One part number covers both swings, which matters if you are stocking spares for a building with doors going both ways.
9) Can a PowerPlex 2000 go on an exterior door in a cold climate?
It is approved for indoor and outdoor use and rated from -31 F (-35 C) to 151 F (66 C), so a northern exterior opening is within range. The housing and levers are solid cast in brass or bronze and the keypad uses vandal resistant solid metal pushbuttons, which is the construction you want on a door facing the parking lot.
10) How many user codes does the PowerPlex 2000 hold and do I need software to run it?
100 codes, at five authority levels: Master, Manager, Access User, Service (single event or single day codes, programmable in advance) and Maintenance. Programming is done at the keypad, so no software is needed to add or remove users. The optional Excel based software is only required if you want to pull the audit trail, which stores the most recent 1,000 lock events. Code length is adjustable from 4 to 8 digits, anti-tamper lockout from 3 to 9 invalid attempts with a 0 to 90 second penalty, and relock time from 2 to 20 seconds.
11) What is the alternative to a keypad exit trim if I just want a keyed lever on my exit device?
Plenty of straight mechanical trim covers that. For a Sargent surface vertical rod or mortise device, the Sargent 70 Series 744 is Grade 1 night latch trim where the key retracts the latch. On Von Duprin 22 Series, the 210K-BE knob with blank escutcheon or the 230DT dummy trim are the mechanical options depending on whether you want outside entry at all. For Yale and Corbin Russwin, the Corbin Russwin ED5000 Series VT957ET is nightlatch escutcheon trim. Mechanical trim means no codes to manage and no audit trail, which is the tradeoff against the PowerPlex.
12) Can I put a PowerPlex on an exit device with a different function than 1 or 2?
No. Every PowerPlex exit trim configuration is stated for function 1 or 2 devices only, across all three brand groupings. If the device on your door is a different function, this trim is not the match for it.
13) What finishes does the PowerPlex 2000 come in to match the rest of my doors?
Satin Chrome 26D (626) housings and levers is the standard. Satin Brass 04 (606) and Dark Bronze 744 (10B) are the optional finishes. 626 is the one that matches most commercial exit device hardware already hanging in a building.
14) Can the PowerPlex be left unlocked during business hours?
Yes. Passage mode can be toggled on and off, so the door free-wheels during open hours and goes back to PIN access after. There is also a lockout mode that blocks entry entirely. Both are keypad functions, no software and no schedule panel involved.
