Dormakaba SP1 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does the Dormakaba SP1 axle adaptor do on an ED900 door closer?
The SP1 is the axle adaptor that makes the connection between the ED900 closer's axle and the arm, in the no-extension configuration. It keeps the closer's original geometry and operating specification, so the unit performs as it did from the factory. It is a Dormakaba replacement part for ED900 Series closers, not a universal adaptor.
2) I need an extended axle on my ED900 - is the SP1 the right one?
No. The SP1 is the no-extension version of the axle adaptor. If your installation needs added axle height, for example where the closer sits behind a deeper cover or a thicker mounting condition, the no-extension adaptor will leave you short. Order the SP1 only where the original geometry calls for no extension.
3) Can I repair an ED900 closer with this part instead of replacing the whole unit?
That is exactly what it is for. Swapping the SP1 axle adaptor restores the axle connection and lets the ED900 run to its original specification without pulling and replacing the complete closer, which is the cheaper route for a facilities crew keeping a building's openings in service.
4) Is the SP1 adaptor suitable for high-traffic commercial openings like schools and hospitals?
Yes. It is a commercial-grade part, and the ED900 platform it serves is used in office buildings, schools, healthcare facilities, retail, warehouses, multi-tenant residential, and government buildings. Nothing about the SP1 restricts it to light-duty use.
5) How many versions of the SP1 axle adaptor are there?
One. The SP1 is a single part number with no finish, size, or handing options to choose, so there is nothing to specify beyond the quantity you need for the ED900 closers you are servicing.
