Metallics HSSCN8E – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What size and type of drill bit is the Metallics HSSCN8E?
The HSSCN8E is a #8 wire gauge cobalt high-speed steel jobber-style bit with a 135 degree split point, 3-5/8 inches in overall length, in a yellow finish. One bit per pouch.
2) Will a cobalt 135 degree split point bit drill stainless steel and hardened plate?
That is what the cobalt and the 135 degree split point are for. Cobalt HSS holds its edge at the higher temperatures you hit in stainless and tougher alloys, and the 135 degree split point starts cutting without a center punch instead of walking across the surface. The HSSCN8E is the #8 size in that style.
3) Is the Metallics HSSCN8E sold individually or in a set?
Single bit, supplied in a pouch. If you are drilling a run of holes in stainless or spring steel, order spares at the same time, since cobalt bits chip rather than dull when they go.
