1) Will the Dual-Lite PowerLED PLD10 emergency battery pack work on a 277V circuit, or do I need a different unit?
The PLD10 takes a universal input of 120-277V, so one part number covers the 120V, 208V, 240V and 277V circuits you find in most commercial buildings. There is also a 347V input option for Canadian jobs running that service. Wiring 347V into a 120-277V unit is not a field adjustment, so the input has to be picked at the order.
2) Is 10 watts of emergency output enough to meet the 90-minute egress requirement?
The PLD10 drives 10W of constant power at 20-56V DC for a minimum of 90 minutes, which is the runtime NFPA 101 expects of emergency egress lighting. Constant power matters here: the driver holds the 10W for the full 90 minutes instead of fading, so the fixture is still producing usable light at minute 89. Whether 10W lights your space depends on the efficacy of the LED board you are pairing it with, not on the pack.
3) Can I install a PowerLED PLD10 battery pack in an LED fixture already in the field, or is it factory install only?
Both. The PLD10 is UL 924 listed for field and factory installation, so an electrician can retrofit it into an existing LED fixture as well as have it built in at the plant. It is a UL 924 emergency driver, not a self-contained light: it needs a compatible LED load to drive.
4) Will a PLD10 emergency pack hold up in an unconditioned space like a parking garage or a boiler room?
The high-temperature Nickel-Cadmium battery in the PLD10 is rated for ambient temperatures of 0 to 55 degrees C, which covers an unheated garage in most climates and a warm mechanical room. Below freezing is outside that window. Pair the range with the galvanized steel housing for those locations.
5) Does an emergency battery pack interfere with 0-10V or Lutron dimming on the normal-power fixture?
No. Dimming control on the host fixture can be 0-10V, Triac, Lutron or EldoLED, and the PLD10 sits alongside it. In normal operation the fixture dims as the control system tells it to; on power loss the solid-state charger's automatic transfer takes the LED load away from the normal driver and runs it at full 10W emergency output. Code wants full output in emergency mode, so the pack overriding the dimming level is the intended behavior.
6) What is the difference between the plastic and metal housing versions of the Dual-Lite PLD10?
Two housings are offered. The thermoplastic version is the lighter-duty enclosure; the galvanized steel version is the one to spec for parking structures, back-of-house, warehouse bays and anywhere the pack sits exposed to knocks. Electrically they are the same 10W pack. If the pack is going inside a fixture housing or above an accessible ceiling in a finished space, plastic is fine.
7) Does the color temperature of my fixture matter when adding a PLD10 emergency driver?
Not for the pack itself. The PLD10 supplies 20-56V DC at 10W and the LED board decides the color, across the 3000K, 3500K, 4000K and 5000K range these fixtures are built in. The number that has to match is the forward voltage of your LED array, which must land inside 20-56V DC. A board outside that window will not run on emergency.
8) Can one PLD10 emergency battery pack cover a 4000 lumen fixture during an outage?
Not at full output. Fixtures in this family run 1000 to 4000 lumens on normal power, and the PLD10 gives you 10W in emergency, so a high-output fixture drops to a fraction of its normal light during an outage. That is how emergency egress lighting is designed to work: you are lighting the path, not the room. Size the number of emergency-equipped fixtures to the footcandle levels on the egress path rather than expecting one to hold its normal output.
