Metallics MDUC5 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is Metallics MDUC5 duct seal used for?
MDUC5 is a non-hardening duct seal compound used to plug and seal conduit and duct openings on electrical work, keeping air, dust and moisture out of the raceway. It is a sealing compound rather than a mechanical plug or bushing, so it packs into irregular openings and around multiple cables where a rigid plug won't fit.
2) Can I use duct seal instead of a conduit plug or bushing to close off a conduit end?
For stopping air, dust and insects at an open conduit end, duct seal is the easier choice: it hand-packs into the opening and around whatever cables are already run, which a rigid plug or bushing cannot do once conductors are in place. Use a threaded plug or a bushing instead when you need thread protection, a bonded metallic closure, or a mechanical fitting the inspector expects to see on the raceway. MDUC5 is the sealing compound, not a fitting.
