Metallics DT260 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Is Metallics DT260 duct tape rated for permanently sealing HVAC ductwork?
No. The DT260 is utility grade silver duct tape, which is a general purpose cloth tape for bundling, temporary repairs, and holding work in place. Permanent duct sealing on an HVAC system is normally done with a listed foil tape or mastic, not utility grade cloth tape, so specify one of those if the seam has to pass inspection.
2) What is the manufacturer part number for the 2 inch silver utility duct tape from Metallics?
Order it as Metallics DT260. That part number covers the 2 inch by 60 yard silver utility grade roll, and it is the only configuration the DT260 is sold in, so there is no width or color option to pick.
3) Is this duct tape the right consumable for an electrical crew's truck stock?
Yes, Metallics carries the DT260 as an electrical department item, and a 2 inch by 60 yard silver roll is the standard utility size electricians use for bundling cable, tagging runs, and temporary closures. For insulating or phase-marking conductors you still want vinyl electrical tape instead, since cloth duct tape is not an insulating tape.
