DynaLock 6145M – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What does the DynaLock 6145M pushbutton station actually do in an access control system?
The 6145M is a four-button request-to-exit station in a 2 gang plate, part of DynaLock's 6000 Series. Every button is a momentary SPDT switch, so each one makes and breaks on press and returns on release. That gives you four independent momentary controls off one plate, which is how installers handle a door with several release points, or several doors controlled from one guard desk or reception position. It is a commercial device for electronic access control, not a residential wall switch.
2) Can one DynaLock 6145M button release the mag lock and signal the alarm panel at the same time?
That is what the additional set of SPDT contacts option is for. Standard, each button gives you one SPDT set, enough to break the lock power or trigger the panel, but not both cleanly. Adding the second contact set per button gives you an independent form C set on the same press, so one button can drop the lock while the other set shunts the door contact or reports to the alarm. Order it per button, so a four-button plate can have it on some buttons and not others.
3) Will the DynaLock 6145M work as a handicap door opener button?
It will not serve that role. The 6145M buttons are small momentary pushbuttons on a gang plate, with no accessibility marking. For a barrier-free actuator you need a large push plate marked with the handicap symbol, such as the RCI 950 Series round push plate with handicap symbol, a momentary switch in satin stainless. The 6145M is the control-side device; the push plate is the user-side actuator.
4) The door needs to stay unlocked until someone switches it back. Can I do that with a DynaLock 6145M?
Not with the 6145M. Momentary means the contacts return the instant the button is released, so the lock re-secures immediately. For a hold-open or latch-on-until-reset function you need a maintained device: the RCI 908 Series electronic exit button with red EXIT text is a maintained button, the RCI 919 Series rotary release is maintained with a satin aluminum finish, and for key-controlled maintained release the ACSI 1310-1 mortise keyswitch is the 1300 Series option.
5) The opening needs an emergency release button, not a general REX - what should I use instead of the DynaLock 6145M?
The 6145M is a general request-to-exit control: four momentary SPDT buttons, standard green, on a two-gang plate. It carries no emergency marking. For an opening that requires a marked emergency release, the ACSI 1320-1-MOM-ER is a pushbutton switch marked "Emergency Release", and the Securitron EEB is an emergency exit push button with interchangeable LED lenses. Those are the parts to specify where the button must read as an emergency device; the 6145M is the part to specify where you need four ordinary switched exit or door-control buttons at one location.
6) Will an RCI 908 exit button work in place of a DynaLock 6145M?
Not as a like-for-like. The RCI 908 Series electronic exit button with red EXIT text is a maintained-operation device, meaning the contact stays in its switched state until the button is operated again. The DynaLock 6145M is momentary: the SPDT contacts transfer only while the button is pressed. If the access control panel or mag lock circuit expects a momentary REX pulse, a maintained button changes the behavior of the opening. The RCI 919 rotary release button is likewise a maintained device. Match momentary to momentary before treating either as a substitution.
7) Is there a tamper option on the DynaLock 6000 Series pushbutton plate?
An anti-tamper switch can be added to the 6145M. It is the option to take on a plate mounted on the unsecured side of an opening, or anywhere a facility wants plate removal reported back to the panel rather than discovered later. It is a build option, not field-addable, so it has to be called out on the order.
8) Should I use a four-button station like the DynaLock 6145M or separate single push buttons at each door?
Go with the 6145M where the control point is central, a reception desk, a guard station, a nurses station, running several doors or several functions from one place. One plate, one back box, one wire run. Where each opening needs its own release beside the door, single-button devices are the cleaner install: the Securitron PB3 Series push button or the Trine 342 narrow style electric door switch are single-station devices for that job, and the Trine is the one to look at when the mounting surface is a narrow frame rather than a wall.
9) What is the momentary equivalent to the DynaLock 6145M if I only need one switch point?
The RCI 909 Series flush mount momentary rocker switch, rated 250VAC 10A in beige finish, is a momentary single-switch device. The RCI 950 Series round push plate with handicap symbol is also a momentary switch, in satin stainless steel, and is the one to use where the control also has to serve as an accessible actuator. The DynaLock 6145M stays the right call when the location needs four independently switched momentary SPDT buttons on one plate rather than a single control.
10) The specification calls for keyed control at the door - is a DynaLock 6145M acceptable?
No. The 6145M is a pushbutton control - anyone at the door can operate it, and its four momentary SPDT buttons carry no key cylinder. Where the spec calls for a keyed release so that only a keyholder can operate the circuit, the ACSI 1310-1 mortise keyswitch in the 1300 Series is the device type that answers it. The 6145M does offer an anti-tamper switch option, which addresses removal of the plate rather than restricting who may press the button.
11) I need one button to switch two separate circuits - does the DynaLock 6145M do that, or do I need two buttons?
The 6145M handles it directly. An additional set of SPDT contacts can be ordered per button, so a single press can transfer two independent circuits - for example shunting an alarm point while releasing a mag lock. You do not need to gang two separate buttons for that. Among single-function alternatives, devices such as the Securitron PB5 medium round illuminated push button or the RCI 909 Series momentary rocker are one-button controls, so a two-circuit requirement there means additional hardware.
12) Which push button matches satin stainless hardware already installed on the other doors?
The DynaLock 6145M is finished in Brushed Stainless Steel US32D as standard, which is the same family of appearance as the RCI 950 Series round push plate in satin stainless steel and the stainless button of the Securitron PB4L. If the existing controls on the building are satin aluminum rather than stainless, the RCI 919 rotary release button is offered in satin aluminum. Confirm which of the two the other openings actually carry before standardizing, since the two read differently side by side.
13) What finish and button color does the DynaLock 6145M come in?
Brushed stainless steel, US32D, with green buttons as standard. US32D is the satin stainless finish most commercial door hardware is specified in, so the plate sits alongside satin stainless levers, push plates and exit device trim without a mismatch. If you are standardizing a corridor or a floor of a building, that is the finish already on most of it.
14) Can I add more DynaLock 6000 Series stations later and have them match what is already installed?
Yes. The 6000 Series runs a standard brushed stainless steel US32D finish with green buttons across the line, so a station added next year lands in the same finish as the one on the wall today. For a property manager standardizing across a portfolio, ordering within the 6000 Series keeps the plates, the button color and the SPDT switching consistent from door to door.
15) Is the DynaLock 6145M suitable for commercial access control work?
Yes. The 6145M is a commercial electronic access control device - four momentary SPDT request-to-exit buttons on a two-gang plate, with optional illuminated or audible indicators for monitoring. Its peers in this role include the Securitron PB3 Series push buttons and the ACSI 1320-1-MOM-ER pushbutton switch. What separates the 6145M within that group is the four-button, multi-circuit build on a single plate rather than a single control point.
