DynaLock 6210 Series Palm Switch Buttons, Alternate-Action SPDT

The DynaLock 6210 palm switch latches. Alternate-action means one press changes state and it stays there until the next press, unlike a momentary button that only holds the contact while your hand is on it. SPDT gives you one common with a normally open and a normally closed leg, so you can wire it to release a mag lock and hold it released, or feed a change of state to an access panel. If you want the door to unlock only while somebody is pushing, that is the wrong switch for the opening: RCI's 909 Series flush momentary rocker or the 950 Series round push plate with the handicap symbol are momentary devices instead.

Five choices sit on the order form for the 6210, and every one of them is fixed at manufacture. Anti-tamper switch, yes or no. Bi-color red/green LED at 12/24 VDC, yes or no. Green button in place of the standard red. Narrow 1-3/4 inch plate. Two gang 4-9/16 inch faceplate. Add the audible sounder and you are into the two gang plate as well. Leave them all off and you get the base device: red button, brushed stainless steel US32D plate.

A palm switch like the 6210 is for open, hands-full egress: anyone can hit it with a forearm or a gloved hand, no key, no fine motor control. That is what you want for a request to exit at a staff door, a loading area, or a corridor. If access to the release needs to be restricted to keyholders, that is a mortise keyswitch instead, such as the ACSI 1310-1. If the device is meant only for emergency release and should be visibly marked as such, look at the ACSI 1320-1-MOM-ER, which is marked Emergency Release, or the Securitron EEB emergency exit push button.

The DynaLock 6210 is an alternate-action SPDT palm switch, meaning one press latches the contacts over and the next press returns them - the switch holds its state rather than pulsing. The Securitron PB3 is a push button series. If the exit control needs to hold a door released until someone presses again, the alternate-action 6210 is the one that behaves that way; a momentary-style button returns to normal the instant the hand comes off. The 6210 also comes with an anti-tamper switch option and a bi-color red/green LED for 12/24 VDC, so the state the button is latched into can be indicated at the door.

Two hold their state. The DynaLock 6210 is an alternate-action SPDT palm switch, so each press flips the contacts and they stay flipped. The RCI 908 series electronic exit button with red EXIT text is offered with maintained operation in the 908-RE-MA. The RCI 919 rotary release button is also maintained, and it is released by rotating rather than by pressing a plate. A large palm plate suits a gloved hand or a hurried exit; the rotary requires a deliberate twist.

For an opening that needs the wheelchair symbol on the actuator, the RCI 950 series round push plate carries a handicap symbol and is a momentary switch in satin stainless steel. The DynaLock 6210 palm switch is an alternate-action SPDT device with a red button as standard on a brushed stainless steel US32D plate, and a green button is available - it is a request-to-exit control rather than a symbolled accessible actuator. Momentary is also what an operator input usually wants, since the operator runs its own cycle timing.

The Trine 342 is a narrow style electric door switch, built for the narrow stile condition. The DynaLock 6210 palm switch is also offered on a narrow plate 1-3/4 inches wide, as well as on a two gang faceplate 4-9/16 inches wide, so the same alternate-action SPDT switching can be had in a narrow footprint. Note that the audible sounder option on the 6210 requires the two gang faceplate, so a sounder and a narrow stile do not go together.

It is the option institutional and MRO buyers want on any exit control in a public corridor. The anti-tamper switch on the 6210 monitors the device itself, so removal of the plate reports back rather than going unnoticed. It can be combined with any of the other choices: LED, green button, narrow plate, or two gang faceplate. On a school, healthcare, or government opening where the switch is reachable by anyone, order it; behind a counter or in a staff-only room it is usually skipped.

Order the 6210 with the narrow plate at 1-3/4 inches wide first; that is the version built for tight frames and mullions. If the location still will not take it, the Trine 342 is a narrow style electric door switch. For a round device rather than a rectangular plate, the Securitron PB5 Series is a medium round illuminated push button and the PB4L Series is a stainless push button with an illuminated halo.

The 6210 palm switch is alternate-action, so it holds its state after a press, which is what a maintained device does. There is a cross-brand equivalent in the RCI 908 Series electronic exit button with maintained operation, which carries red EXIT text on the plate, and the RCI 919 Series rotary release button is also a maintained device. The difference is the actuator: the 6210 is a palm-sized button you strike, the 919 is a rotary release you turn. If the users have their hands full or wear gloves, the palm switch is the one that gets operated reliably.

Not for the same purpose. The ACSI 1310-1 is a mortise keyswitch, so operation requires a key in a cylinder and access is limited to whoever carries that key. The DynaLock 6210 is an alternate-action SPDT palm switch that anyone at the door can operate with a hand, which is what a request-to-exit control is meant to allow. Where the requirement is that only authorized staff can change the door state, the keyswitch does that; where anyone leaving must be able to release the door, the palm switch does. The 6210 does offer an anti-tamper switch if the concern is the device being opened rather than being pressed.

The DynaLock 6210 palm switch comes standard in brushed stainless steel US32D with a red button, with a green button available, and can be ordered on a narrow 1-3/4 inch plate or a two gang 4-9/16 inch faceplate, so one switch model covers both a narrow stile and a standard two gang box across a facility. Among the peers, the RCI 950 round push plate is satin stainless steel, the RCI 919 rotary release is satin aluminum, and the RCI 909F rocker is beige. Where every device in a corridor should read the same, the finish and plate width of the specified device is the thing to hold constant.

Red is standard on the 6210, and a green button is an option. Green is the usual choice where the button is a normal daily egress or door release and you do not want people reading it as an emergency device; red gets used where the intent is emergency release. Both share the same brushed stainless steel US32D plate, so a mixed set of doors in one building still looks consistent.

Brushed stainless steel, US32D, is the standard plate finish on the 6210. That is the same satin stainless designation used across commercial push plates, levers and exit trim, so it lines up with the rest of a US32D opening. If you are matching a satin aluminum trim package instead, RCI's 919 Series rotary release button is a satin aluminum device.
