1) Does the DynaLock 6500 pushplate run on 12V or 24V?
Either. The 6500 is field configurable for 12VDC or 24VDC, and you pick the input when ordering. Current draw is 40 mA maximum, which is the load the electroluminescent sign puts on your power supply, so budget for it on top of the lock current.
2) Which switch format should I order, momentary or alternate action?
Three formats are offered on the 6500. Momentary SPDT releases the lock only while the plate is pressed, which is the normal choice for a maglock request-to-exit or a door operator. Alternate action SPDT latches on with one press and off with the next, so it works where staff need to hold a door unlocked. 4) What do I have to specify when ordering a DynaLock 6500 pushplate?
Three things: the signage model (for example EX for EXIT or PE for PUSH TO EXIT), the switch format (momentary SPDT, alternate action SPDT, or pneumatic time delay 2 to 60 second SPDT Form Z), and the input voltage, 12 VDC or 24 VDC.
5) What is a comparable illuminated exit push button if a double-gang pushplate is too large for the wall space?
The DynaLock 6500 Series pushplates are double-gang aluminum plates with electroluminescent illuminated signage. Where a smaller footprint is needed, the Securitron PB5 is a medium round illuminated push button, and the Securitron PB4L uses an illuminated halo around a stainless push button. The Trine 342 is a narrow style electric door switch for tight mullions and frames.
6) Which push plate should I use for an ADA door operator actuator instead of an EXIT pushplate?
The DynaLock 6500 Series signage options read EXIT, OPEN, PUSH TO EXIT, PUSH TO OPEN and bilingual equivalents such as EXIT/SALIDA and OPEN/OUVREZ. For an actuator that has to carry the wheelchair symbol, the RCI 950HP is a round push plate with a handicap symbol and a momentary switch in satin stainless steel.
7) I need a maintained (latching) exit switch rather than momentary - what are my options?
The DynaLock 6500 Series is ordered with an alternate action SPDT switch when you want the contact to latch, or a momentary SPDT switch for pulse operation. 8) Can the DynaLock 6500 switch a 120V circuit directly?
Yes, within its contact rating. The pneumatic time delay model is rated 10 A at 125VAC; the momentary and alternate action models are rated 6 A at 125VAC. That covers most door operator and relay loads, but size the load against the rating of the format you order.
9) Is a lighted pushplate worth it over a plain exit button in a dim stairwell or corridor?
That is the case the 6500 is built for. The signage is electroluminescent, so the wording stays legible in low light or a smoke-darkened corridor rather than depending on ambient light. If you only need a simple release and lighting is not a concern, a non-illuminated button like the RCI 908 Series electronic exit button or the Trine 342 narrow style switch does the same switching job in a smaller footprint.
10) Will a DynaLock 6500 pushplate hold up in a school or hospital corridor where people lean on it?

14) What finish does the 6500 pushplate come in and will it match satin aluminum trim?

15) Can I use the 6500 as a key-operated release instead of a pushplate?
