DynaLock 6911 US26 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is the difference between alternate action and momentary on the DynaLock 6911 pushplate?
The 6911 is alternate action, meaning maintained: press once and the contacts stay switched until the plate is pressed again. Momentary models (MOM) only hold the switched state while your hand is on the plate. Use the 6911 where you want a mag lock or electric strike to stay released, for example holding an opening unlocked during business hours or during a drill. If you need the door to re-secure the instant the plate is released, order a momentary model of the 6901 Series instead.
2) Will a DynaLock 6911 pushplate fit a standard double gang electrical box?
Yes. The 6911 is a double gang pushplate, so it mounts over a two gang box or two gang mud ring. Single gang boxes will not take it, and you cannot pull the plate in to cover a smaller opening.
3) What are the switch contacts rated for on the DynaLock 6911?
The 6911 uses an SPDT (single pole double throw) switch rated 6 A at 125VAC, UL. Within the 6901 Series, only the PTD pneumatic time delay models carry the higher 10 A at 125VAC rating. Because it is single pole double throw you get one normally open and one normally closed contact off the same press, which covers a fail safe mag lock on the NC side or a fail secure strike on the NO side. If you need two isolated circuits switched, such as a lock plus a separate alarm shunt, specify a DPDT model.
4) What is the closest alternative to the DynaLock 6911 pushplate if I need a maintained-contact exit button rather than momentary?
The DynaLock 6911 is an alternate action (maintained) SPDT double gang pushplate machined from solid aluminum with PUSH TO EXIT engraved lettering. If you want a maintained-operation button in a smaller form factor, the RCI 908 Series electronic exit button with red EXIT text is offered in maintained operation, and the RCI 919 Series rotary release button is also a maintained device in a satin aluminum finish. Both switch the door the same way the 6911 does - the contact stays latched until the button is reset - but they are single-device buttons rather than an engraved double gang plate.
5) I need a push to exit device for an opening where a double gang plate will not fit - what should I use instead of the DynaLock 6911?
The 6911 is a double gang pushplate, so it needs a two-gang box or equivalent prep. For narrow stiles and tight mullions, the Trine 342 is a narrow style electric door switch. For a single round opening, the Securitron PB3 Series push button, the Securitron PB5 Series medium round illuminated push button, and the RCI 950 Series round push plate are all round-format devices. Note that the round RCI 950 shown with the handicap symbol is a momentary switch, while the 6911 is alternate action, so confirm the contact behavior your control panel expects before substituting.
6) Is the DynaLock 6911 an emergency release station, or do I need a different device for that?
The 6911 is engraved PUSH TO EXIT, so it reads as a normal request-to-exit or egress release, not an emergency station. If the drawing calls for an emergency release, the ACSI 1320-1-MOM-ER pushbutton switch is marked Emergency Release, and the Securitron EEB is an emergency exit push button with interchangeable LED lenses. Those carry the emergency marking and signaling that the 6911 does not.
7) Does the DynaLock 6911 satisfy a drawing that calls for an accessible push plate with the wheelchair symbol?
The 6911 is engraved PUSH TO EXIT with black lettering at a 1/8 inch stroke and 1 inch minimum height; it does not carry a handicap symbol. If the spec calls for the accessibility symbol on the plate, the RCI 950 Series round push plate is supplied with the handicap symbol as a momentary switch in satin stainless steel. Bear in mind that is a momentary contact while the 6911 is alternate action maintained.
8) Does the DynaLock 6911 pushplate come marked for exit, or do I have to order signage separately?
All 6901 Series models come with PUSH TO EXIT engraved into the plate. Lettering is black, 1/8 inch stroke, 1 inch minimum character height, so no separate label or applied sign is needed to identify the release at the opening.
9) Is the DynaLock 6911 pushplate tough enough for a school or hospital corridor?
It is built for that kind of traffic. The 6901 Series plates are machined from solid aluminum, tamper resistant, and rated heavy duty for commercial use, with the exit wording engraved rather than printed so it will not wear off on a high use egress door.
10) I need a maintained release button but not a double gang plate. What else could I use?
For maintained (latching) operation in a smaller footprint, ZenSupply carries the RCI 908 Series electronic exit button with red EXIT text and maintained operation, and the RCI 919 Series rotary release button with maintained operation in Satin Aluminum. Both give you the hold state the 6911 gives without needing a two gang opening. The 6911 remains the choice where you want the larger engraved PUSH TO EXIT plate.
11) What should I order instead of the 6911 if I want the door to release only while the button is pressed?
You want momentary, not the maintained 6911. Options ZenSupply stocks include the Securitron PB3 Series push buttons, the RCI 950 Series round push plate with handicap symbol in momentary, the RCI 909 Series flush mount momentary rocker switch, and the ACSI 1320-1-MOM-ER pushbutton marked Emergency Release. Momentary models in the DynaLock 6901 Series also feature all active operation.
12) Does the DynaLock 6911 pushplate include a built in time delay for delayed egress?
No timer is built into the 6911. It is a straight alternate action SPDT switch. Pneumatic time delay is a separate option in the 6901 Series, designated PTD, and those models carry the 10 A at 125VAC contact rating. If your code requirement calls for a timed release, order the PTD version rather than the 6911.
13) I have a narrow aluminum stile frame with no room for a double gang box. What switch works there?
The 6911 will not work on a narrow stile, since it needs a double gang opening. For a narrow aluminum frame, the Trine 342 narrow style electric door switch is the device built for that mounting condition.
14) I need the exit button to match bronze or brass door hardware - does the DynaLock 6911 cover that, or is there a better choice?
The DynaLock 6911 is the broader finish option here: it comes in Bright Brass US3, Satin Brass US4, Light Bronze US10, Dark Bronze US10B, Medium Bronze US13, Black Satin US19, Bright Chrome US26 and Satin Aluminum US28. Among the comparable buttons, the RCI 919 rotary release is cataloged in satin aluminum and the RCI 950 round push plate in satin stainless steel, so for brass or bronze coordination the 6911 is the one that offers it.
15) Which option should I specify instead of the DynaLock 6911 if the exit device needs to be visible in a dark corridor?
The 6911 is a machined solid aluminum plate with black engraved lettering and no illumination. Where the release has to be seen in low light, the Securitron PB4L Series pairs a stainless push button with an illuminated halo, and the Securitron PB5 Series is a medium round illuminated push button. The Securitron EEB uses interchangeable LED lenses. All three trade the engraved double gang plate format for a lit round button.
16) Can a mortise keyswitch be used in place of the DynaLock 6911 pushplate?
They do different jobs. The 6911 is a tamper resistant push to exit plate anyone can operate on the egress side. The ACSI 1310-1 is a mortise keyswitch, which requires a key to actuate and is normally used for authorized control rather than free egress. If the opening needs both, they are specified as separate devices, not as substitutes for each other.
17) What is the difference between the DynaLock 6911 and the RCI 909F-MO rocker switch for a 125VAC control circuit?
The DynaLock 6911 is an alternate action SPDT device, and DynaLock rates the non-PTD models at 6 A at 125VAC, UL listed. The RCI 909 Series flush mount rocker is a momentary device rated 250VAC 10A with a beige finish. So the RCI carries the higher voltage and current rating but returns to rest when released, while the 6911 holds its state and is finished as an engraved metal pushplate available in eight finishes including Satin Aluminum US28 and Dark Bronze US10B.
18) Can I use a key operated release instead of a pushplate on the same opening?
If the requirement is authorized release rather than free egress by anyone, a keyswitch is the better device. ZenSupply carries the ACSI 1310-1 mortise keyswitch from the 1300 Series for that. The 6911 pushplate is the opposite approach: an engraved PUSH TO EXIT plate anyone can operate, which is what egress mandates usually call for on the inside of the opening.
