B-Line Eaton series 4Dimension strut pipe clamps and fittings, 4" Height, 6" Length, 6" Width, 3.8lbs, Steel, Stainless steel type 316

The 4D280SS6 is a steel 4Dimension strut pipe clamp fitting finished in stainless steel type 316. Type 316 is the grade specifiers call for in coastal, wash-down, and chemically aggressive areas where 304 would pit, so it suits exterior rooftop runs, water treatment, and food-processing environments rather than dry indoor work where plain electro-galvanized would do.

Order it as Eaton B-Line part number 4D280SS6. The SS6 ending is the type 316 stainless version of the 4Dimension fitting, so if a submittal or an existing run calls out a plain or galvanized 4D280, the SS6 is not the same finish and should not be swapped in without checking the spec.

It measures 4 inches in height, 6 inches in length/depth, and 6 inches in width, and weighs 3.8 pounds. That weight matters on overhead work: it is a solid one-hand piece, but a run of them adds up fast against the load rating of whatever is anchoring your strut to the deck.

Better not to. The 4D280SS6 is finished in type 316 stainless, and pairing stainless fittings with galvanized strut, bolts, or channel nuts sets up galvanic corrosion at the contact point, which defeats the reason you paid for 316 in the first place. Keep the channel, nuts, and bolts in the same stainless family through the whole assembly.

It is catalogued by Eaton B-Line for electrical work, and 4Dimension strut pipe clamps and fittings are the connectors used to build strut support frames for conduit, cable tray, and pipe runs. The same strut framing is routinely used by mechanical and plumbing trades too, since the clamp holds pipe regardless of what is inside it.
