B-LINE BA50DCAN – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What does the B-Line BA50DCAN hanger actually mount to?
It's an acoustical tee fastener, so it attaches to the T-bar of a suspended acoustical ceiling grid and carries an electrical box from that tee. Eaton B-Line catalogues it as a heavy-duty electrical box hanger. It is not a stud or joist bracket, so if you're framing a box into drywall or into open joists above the grid, you want a bar hanger or a joist-mount bracket instead.
2) Is the BA50DCAN box hanger UL listed for ceiling grid support?
The BA50DCAN carries a UL/CUL listing, which is what most inspectors and institutional specs look for on ceiling-grid supported electrical boxes. The CUL side of that listing covers Canadian jurisdictions, so the same part answers both sides of the border on a multi-site rollout.
3) Do I still need a support wire if I use this acoustical tee hanger?
The BA50DCAN is rated two ways: one capacity when it hangs from the tee alone, and a higher capacity when a dedicated dropwire is run to it. If your box and device assembly is on the heavier side, run the dedicated wire and take the higher rating. Many AHJs want independent support wires on grid-mounted boxes regardless, so plan the wire into the rough-in.
4) What part number do I give my distributor for the Eaton B-Line acoustical tee box hanger?
Order it as BA50DCAN, Eaton B-Line series. That is the manufacturer part number and there is a single configuration, so there is no finish or length option to specify with it.
5) Will the BA50DCAN corrode in a humid space like a locker room or kitchen ceiling?
The hanger is pre-galvanized steel, which handles normal interior ceiling humidity fine. For washdown areas, chemical exposure, or anything outdoors, pre-galvanized is not the right finish and you should be specifying stainless or hot-dip hardware.
