This wedge anchor can be installed through the fixture. You drill the hole through the mounting holes of the strut bracket, base plate or equipment foot straight into the concrete, then drive the anchor home without moving the fixture. That saves a layout step and eliminates hole alignment problems on multi-hole plates.
2) Is a stainless steel wedge anchor worth it over a zinc plated one for outdoor or wet locations?
The AWA-50-550SS is stainless steel throughout, so it holds up in exterior, washdown, and damp environments where a plated carbon steel anchor will corrode at the exposed thread and nut. For rooftop equipment supports, parking structures, food processing areas, and coastal sites, stainless is the material you want. Indoors and dry, a plated anchor does the same mechanical job.
3) Will a wedge anchor work in block or brick, or only concrete?
Wedge anchors like the AWA-50-550SS work by expanding a clip against the wall of a drilled hole, so they need solid, cured concrete to develop their hold. Hollow block, brick, and mortar joints will not give that clip anything to bite into. For hollow masonry use a sleeve anchor or a toggle type fastener instead.
4) Does this anchor come with a nut and washer?
The AWA-50-550SS is supplied as a complete wedge anchor assembly, with the expansion clip on the body and the nut and washer on the threaded end so you can drive it and torque it without separate hardware.
