B-LINE 104514 10 BL – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What size opening does the Eaton B-Line 104514 10 BL Grip Strut plank cover?
The plank is a 120 inch long by 24 inch wide walking surface with a 4.5 inch channel size, so it spans a 10 foot run and covers two feet of width in one piece. The 4.5 inch dimension is the depth of the formed channel, which is also given as the product height.
2) Is Grip Strut ten diamond plank OSHA compliant for elevated walkways?
The 104514 10 BL plank is listed as OSHA compliant, and its serrated diamond openings give the non-slip footing that walking and working surface requirements are aimed at. It is intended for safe, sturdy footing wherever a non-slip surface is required.
3) What does "plain" finish mean on this Grip Strut plank, and can I use it outdoors?
Plain means bare steel with no galvanizing or coating applied. For an exterior catwalk, a wet process area, or anything corrosive, specify a galvanized or coated version of the plank instead, or plan to paint it. Plain material is a dry interior or field-finished choice.
4) What gauge steel is the B-Line ten diamond plank made from?
It is formed from 14 gauge steel. The plank is a one-piece formed carbon steel section, not a welded bar grating assembly, so the gauge plus the 4.5 inch channel depth is what determines how far it can span between supports.
5) Do I order Grip Strut plank by the piece or cut to length?
Model 104514 10 BL is a fixed 120 inch plank, 24 inch grating width, and it ships as a single piece. For runs longer than 10 feet, order multiple planks and butt them over a common support; for narrower catwalks you would step down to a narrower grating width rather than field ripping this one.
6) What is Grip Strut ten diamond plank actually used for on a job?
It serves as the walking surface for catwalks, mezzanine platforms, equipment access decks, stair treads, and rooftop crossovers, anywhere crews need safe, sturdy footing and a non-slip surface. The diamond openings shed water, oil, and debris so the surface stays gripping rather than glazing over.
