A vertical outside bend carries the tray run over an obstruction or down a change in elevation, with the tray bending away from the cable load side. Eaton B-Line model 4A-24-30VO12 turns the run 30 degrees on a 12 inch radius, in 4 inch load depth and 24 inch tray width. Use it where the run has to step over ductwork, beams, or pipe rather than route around it horizontally.

This is the outside bend. On a vertical outside bend the tray rises and the fitting bends away from the cable, which is what you want at the top of a rise or where the run crests over an obstruction. At the bottom of the same rise, where the tray bends back toward the cable, you need the vertical inside bend instead. Ordering the wrong one is the most common mistake on an elevation change, since both are 30 degrees and both look similar in a parts list.

Allow for the fitting's 11.598 inch length along the run, plus the width of your splice plates at each end. With a 12 inch radius and only a 30 degree turn, it is a fairly tight transition, so check that the obstruction you are clearing sits far enough from the nearest support hanger.

Aluminum is the material here. It is light to handle overhead, which matters on a 24 inch wide run, and it holds up in damp and mildly corrosive indoor environments without a coating. Steel tray is the alternative where you need higher load capacity per span or where you want a galvanized or painted finish to match an existing steel system. Do not mix aluminum and steel sections in one run without accounting for dissimilar metal contact at the splices.

It is CSA certified. That is the listing that matters if you are installing in Canada or working to a spec that calls for CSA certified cable tray components.

Plan on ordering splice plates and their hardware separately. Fittings like model 4A-24-30VO12 are supplied as the formed bend itself, and a vertical outside bend needs a connection at each end, so that is two splice plate sets for the fitting plus whatever the adjoining straight sections require. Aluminum tray also needs a hanger or support near the transition, which is a separate line item.

It weighs 4.45 lb, so it is a one-hand lift on the ladder. The real handling concern on a 24 inch wide aluminum fitting is the span, not the weight, so have a second set of hands to hold it square while you land the splice plates.
