B-LINE 00011184 A – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does the Eaton B-Line 00011184 A turn tool defeater door handle lock actually do on an enclosure?
It's a turn tool defeater style lock for an enclosure door handle, meaning the handle can't simply be turned by hand to open the door. You need the matching tool to defeat it. The part is steel with a black finish, so it suits painted industrial enclosures without a mismatched look.
2) Can this B-Line lock be used on a washdown or dusty plant enclosure?
Yes. The 00011184 A carries a NEMA 4 and NEMA 12 degree of protection rating, so it suits enclosures protected against hose-directed water and windblown dust as well as circulating dust, dirt and dripping non-corrosive liquids. It is also UL Listed.
3) Which enclosure or handle is the B-Line 00011184 A lock meant to go with?
It's specified for use with 11184-A. This is an accessory lock insert rather than a complete door latch assembly, so confirm the handle on your enclosure is the matching series before ordering.
4) How big is the B-Line 00011184 A defeater lock?
The published dimensions are 1.417 in height, .855 in width and .791 in length/depth, and it weighs 2.21 lb. Those figures matter if you're checking clearance behind the door flange for the handle cutout.
5) Is this a keyed lock for an electrical enclosure, or something else?
It's a turn tool defeater, not a key cylinder. Access is controlled by requiring a tool to release the handle rather than by a keyway, so you can't key it alike with other doors in a facility. If your spec calls for keyed or padlockable access control, this isn't the right part.
6) Will a steel defeater lock hold up in a damp or wet area?
The body is steel with a black finish and it is rated to NEMA 4 and NEMA 12, which covers hose-directed water and dust. For corrosive or saltwater environments, specify stainless hardware on a NEMA 4X enclosure instead.
