1) What size enclosure does the Eaton B-Line 1612P back panel fit?
The 1612P is a flat steel back panel sized for Eaton B-Line RHC enclosures with a nominal 16 x 12 inch interior. The panel itself measures 16 inches high by 12 inches wide. If your RHC box is a different nominal size, you need the matching panel for that size rather than this one.
2) Does an Eaton B-Line RHC enclosure come with a back panel, or do I order it separately?
Back panels for RHC enclosures are ordered separately, and the 1612P is the flat panel for the 16 x 12 size. Plan on the panel plus whatever mounting hardware your enclosure uses, since the box and the panel are separate line items.
3) Is the 1612P panel steel or plastic, and can I drill and tap it for DIN rail and components?
It is steel with a white powder coated finish, so you can drill and tap it for DIN rail, terminal blocks, contactors or relays the same way you would any subpanel. The white coating also brightens the inside of the enclosure, which helps when you are landing wire in the field.
4) What's the difference between a flat RHC panel like the 1612P and a swing-out or half panel?
A flat panel such as the 1612P is a single solid sheet that sits against the back of the enclosure and gives you the full 16 x 12 mounting area for components. A swing-out panel hinges forward so you can reach wiring behind it, and a half panel only covers part of the back so you can leave the rest open for wire way. Choose the flat panel when you want maximum uninterrupted mounting surface and access from the front is enough.
