1) Will a 4-jaw meter socket work for a standard 120/240V residential service?
Yes. The B-Line 114 TB single meter socket is a 4-jaw, 1 position unit wired 1 phase / 3 wire, which is the normal configuration for a single phase 120/240V service. It is rated 100 A. If you have a 3-phase service or need self-contained metering above 100 A, this is not the socket for that job.
2) What wire sizes will the line and load lugs on the B-Line 114 TB meter socket take?
Both the line and load lugs accept #14 through 2/0 conductors. That covers typical 100 A copper and aluminum service entrance sizes, so you can land 2/0 aluminum SE cable or smaller copper without adapters.
3) Can this meter socket be fed from underground, or is it overhead only?
Both. The 114 TB is built for overhead and underground feed, so the same enclosure works for an overhead drop or a lateral coming up from below. It surface mounts to the wall rather than recessing into it.
4) Is this meter socket rated for outdoor installation?
Yes. It carries a Type 3R enclosure rating, which is the rain-tight rating used for exterior wall-mounted service equipment. The housing is galvanized steel finished in ANSI 61 gray paint for outdoor exposure.
5) Is this a ring type or ringless meter socket?
Ring type. The cover is secured with a sealing ring, and an aluminum snap ring is included with the socket. If your utility standardizes on ringless sockets with a full lift-off cover, order a ringless version instead, since the two covers are not interchangeable.
