1) What size is B-Line B22 strut channel, and will it accept standard 1-5/8 inch strut fittings?
The B22 channel measures 1.62 inches high by 1.62 inches wide, which is the nominal 1-5/8 inch strut profile. Fittings, nuts, clamps and hangers built for 1-5/8 inch strut mate to that opening. It is formed from 12 gauge steel.
2) Is pre-galvanized B22 channel suitable for outdoor or wet locations?
Pre-galvanized is the standard indoor and dry-to-damp finish. The zinc coating is applied to the steel coil before the channel is roll formed, so the cut ends and punched holes are bare steel and will rust where they are exposed. For roof decks, exterior runs, wash-down areas or corrosive process rooms, specify hot-dip galvanized after fabrication or stainless instead.
3) Do I get any nuts, bolts or brackets with a stick of B22-240GLV channel?
No. This is bare channel only, a 240 inch stick of 12 gauge pre-galvanized steel. Spring nuts or channel nuts, bolts, end caps, post bases, and any beam clamps or brackets are ordered separately. Buy the fittings in the same finish so you are not mixing plain steel hardware into a galvanized run.
4) Is B-Line B22 channel steel or aluminum?
Steel, 12 gauge, with a pre-galvanized zinc finish. If your job calls for aluminum strut because of weight or a specific corrosion requirement, this is not the part.
5) Can I cut B22 strut channel to length on site?
Yes, strut is routinely cut in the field with a chop saw or band saw. Because the galvanizing on this channel is pre-applied to the coil, every cut leaves raw steel, so brush the burrs down and hit the ends with cold galvanizing compound on anything exposed to moisture. A 240 inch stick lets you get several shorter trapeze pieces out of one length.
