The B24SH-240YZN is steel with a yellow zinc chromate finish. That is a plated coating for indoor and protected environments, not the hot dip galvanized or stainless material you would run in weather-exposed, corrosive, or washdown areas. For a rooftop, a parking structure, or a coastal site, order a hot dip galvanized or stainless strut instead and keep the yellow zinc for dry interior mechanical rooms and ceiling spaces.

SH is the slotted back pattern: the channel back is punched with slots down its length instead of being solid. You can bolt straight through the back into a wall, deck, or beam anywhere along the run without drilling on site, which is what you want for wall-mounted racks and trapeze supports. If you need an unpunched back for a cleaner look or full section strength, order the solid back version of the B24 channel rather than the SH.

B24SH-240YZN is 14 gauge steel. 14 gauge is the common general purpose strut thickness for conduit runs, cable tray supports, and light equipment hangers. If your drawing calls out 12 gauge for a heavier load or a longer unsupported span, this is not the part to substitute in, since the gauge is what the span and load tables are built on.
