1) Is B11 strut a single channel or a double-height back-to-back section?
B11 is the deep 3.25 in section, which is two 1-5/8 in channel depths welded back to back, with the same 1.62 in strut width. Use it where a single 1-5/8 in channel will not carry the span, such as long trapeze runs or heavy pipe and cable tray supports. If you only need a light single run, a standard 1-5/8 in deep channel is the lighter and cheaper choice.
2) Will standard 1-5/8 inch strut nuts and fittings fit this B11 channel?
Yes. The channel opening is the standard 1.62 in (1-5/8 in) strut width, so common spring nuts, channel nuts, clamps and fittings made for 1-5/8 in strut seat in the slot normally. The 3.25 in depth only affects fittings that wrap the outside of the section, such as post bases, splice plates and brackets, which need to be sized for the deep B11 profile rather than a single channel.
3) Is plain finish strut OK to use outdoors or in a wet area?
No. Plain finish means bare steel with no protective coating, so it is for dry indoor use only. Outdoors, in parking structures, in mechanical rooms with condensation, or anywhere it gets washed down, it will rust. For those locations specify a pre-galvanized (PG), hot dip galvanized (HDG) or stainless version of the B11 section instead.
4) What gauge steel is this B-Line strut, and is it heavier than standard strut?
It is 12 gauge steel, which is the standard structural gauge for B-Line strut channel. Combined with the 3.25 in deep back-to-back B11 profile, that is the heavy end of the strut range, used for trapeze hangers and racks carrying real load rather than light conduit runs.
