No. The 864 SCGV NK carries a NEMA Type 1 rating, which is indoor use only, for protection against incidental contact and falling dirt. It gives you no protection against rain, hose-down, dust or corrosive conditions. For an outdoor or washdown location you need a Type 3R, 4 or 4X enclosure instead. Indoors, in a dry mechanical room, electrical closet or above a ceiling, it is the right box.

It measures 8 inches height, 6 inches width and 4 inches length/depth, which is where the 864 designation comes from. Plan for the full 4 inch depth off the wall face plus whatever your conduit fittings add, since it is a surface mounted box and nothing recesses.

No knockouts. The NK in the model means no knockout, so the body comes blank and you punch or drill your own conduit openings wherever the run lands. That is useful when you are feeding from an odd direction, but it means you need a knockout punch on site. If you want factory openings, order a knockout version of the screw cover box instead.

It mounts on the surface through thru holes in the back of the box, so you fasten straight to the wall, stud or backboard with your own screws or anchors. Anchors and screws are not supplied. The cover also has keyhole slots, so you can back the plated cover screws out part way and lift the cover off rather than chasing loose screws on a ladder.

The body is 16 gauge galvanized steel, unfinished, grey in appearance. Galvanizing gives it reasonable resistance to the humidity you get in a basement or mechanical room, but it is not a painted or powder coated finish and it is not rated for wet locations. In genuinely damp or corrosive areas, step up to a gasketed Type 4 or 4X enclosure.

A screw cover box like the 864 SCGV NK is the normal choice for a pull or junction point you rarely open, where a swinging door would just be in the way. The cover comes fully off for pulling wire, and keyhole slots on the cover mean the plated screws only need loosening, not removing. If the box houses controls or terminals that get opened routinely, a hinged door enclosure is the better pick.

3.8 lb empty. Light enough for one person to hold up and fasten through the back thru holes, but anchor it into structure or blocking rather than bare drywall once conduit and conductors add load.
