Yes, outdoors is what the RTHC box is built for. It carries a NEMA 3R rating, which covers falling rain, sleet and snow, and it includes a rain hood over the door opening. Wet-location service only, though, NEMA 3R is not a washdown or hosedown rating, so keep it off surfaces that get pressure washed.

No drilling in the back panel. It is a surface-mount enclosure with embossed thru holes already formed for the mounting fasteners. Embossed holes keep the fastener heads off the flat of the back and preserve the 3R integrity, so you should not add your own penetrations through the enclosure wall.

Five knockouts are provided. For anything beyond those you will be punching your own, and on an outdoor 3R box any field-made opening needs a rated fitting and should be on the bottom or sides rather than the top so water does not track in.

16 gauge carbon steel body, painted ANSI 61 grey. That is the standard grey used across commercial electrical gear, so it matches adjacent panelboards and disconnects in a mechanical room or on a rooftop. Being painted steel rather than stainless, it is for general outdoor and industrial use, not coastal salt spray or chemical exposure, where a stainless or non-metallic 4X box is the right call.

This is a junction box in the small single door style, so what you are buying is the enclosure with its hinged rain-hooded cover and five knockouts. Any back panel, DIN rail, terminal blocks or grounding kit is ordered separately.
