B-LINE 44 HSLSIDE – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the B-Line 44 HSLSIDE elbow fit my 4 x 4 wireway run?
Yes, it's sized for 4 inch by 4 inch lay-in wireway. The fitting is listed at 4 in height and 4 in length/depth, matching a 4x4 trough cross section, so it couples straight into a standard 4x4 gutter run. It will not work on 6x6 or 8x8 wireway, which needs the matching size fitting.
2) Is this B-Line elbow rated for outdoor or wet locations?
No. It's a NEMA 1 rated fitting, which is indoor, dry location only, providing a degree of protection against incidental contact with the enclosed equipment and falling dirt. For outdoor, rain, or washdown areas you need NEMA 3R or NEMA 4 rated wireway and fittings.
3) What is a side opening 90 degree wireway elbow used for, and when would I use a flat elbow instead?
A side opening 90 elbow turns a wireway run 90 degrees in the horizontal plane, with the removable cover on the side of the fitting so you can lay conductors in from the side. Use it where the run changes direction left or right along a wall. If your run has to turn up or down (changing elevation), you want the flat or top opening version instead, since the access cover has to face where the installer can reach it.
4) Can I pull wire through this elbow, or do I have to lay it in?
It's built as a lay-in fitting. You remove the side cover and drop the conductors into the elbow rather than pulling them around the 90, which is the reason lay-in wireway is used at direction changes instead of conduit elbows.
5) What finish and material is the 44 HSLSIDE elbow, and will it match my existing gutter?
Steel with an ANSI 61 gray painted finish. That's the same standard gray used across the Eaton B-Line lay-in wireway line and on most industrial control gear, so it'll blend with an existing ANSI 61 gray run without a paint touch-up.
