B-LINE 44-12LN2 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What does the B-Line 44-12LN2 nipple section actually do in a wireway run?
It is the short connector piece that joins two 4 x 4 inch wireway sections or ties a wireway directly to an enclosure or panel. Model 44-12LN2 measures 4 inches high by 4 inches wide with a 1.938 inch length, so it bridges a short gap rather than carrying conductors any distance. Like the rest of the run it is lay-in, meaning wire drops in from the open side instead of being pulled through.
2) Will a 4x4 wireway nipple fit my 6x6 trough?
No. The 44-12LN2 is sized 4 inches by 4 inches and mates to 4 x 4 inch wireway only. For a 6 x 6 run you need a nipple section built for that cross section; mixing sizes leaves an open gap and breaks the NEMA 12 integrity of the raceway.
3) Is this wireway nipple rated for a dusty or oily plant environment?
NEMA 12 rated, which covers indoor protection against falling dirt, circulating dust, lint, and dripping or splashing non-corrosive liquids. That suits machine shops, plant floors, and food or packaging areas. It is not a washdown or outdoor rating, so for hosedown or exterior runs you want a NEMA 4 or 4X raceway instead.
4) Should I use a nipple section or a full-length wireway section between two panels sitting side by side?
Use the nipple when the two enclosures or wireway bodies are nearly touching. At 1.938 inches long, the 44-12LN2 is built for that short hop and nothing more. If you need to span a foot or more, order a standard length 4 x 4 lay-in wireway section instead and keep the nipple for the tight tie-ins.
5) What is the 44-12LN2 made of and what color does it come in?
Steel, finished in ANSI 61 gray paint. That is the standard gray used across industrial control panels and wireway, so it matches adjacent B-Line wireway sections, fittings, and most panel enclosures already in the plant.
6) Does the lay-in design make wire pulls easier than conduit?
That is the point of it. With a lay-in wireway the cover comes off and conductors drop straight into the trough, so you are not fishing through a pipe. The 44-12LN2 nipple keeps that same lay-in access at the joint between sections, so you are not forced to pull through a blind fitting at the transition.
7) How heavy is a 4x4 wireway nipple section for shipping and handling?
About 2.392 lb for the 44-12LN2. Light enough for one person to hold in place while a second man lands the screws, which matters when you are making up a connection overhead on a ladder.
