B-LINE 1414120 GRT NK – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Can the B-Line 1414120 GRT NK wiring trough be used outdoors?
It carries a NEMA 3R rating, so it is built for outdoor use where falling rain, sleet and external ice formation are the concerns. The steel body is finished in ANSI 61 gray and closed with plated screws. NEMA 3R is not a washdown or hosedown rating, so skip it for pressure-wash areas or locations with driving water.
2) Does the 1414120 GRT NK trough come with knockouts for conduit?
No. The NK in the model designation means no knockouts, so every conduit entry has to be field punched or hole sawed. At 16 gauge steel that means a knockout punch set rather than a hand drill for anything above trade size 1/2. If you want factory knockouts, order the knockout version of the GRT trough instead.
3) Is the cover on this B-Line trough hinged or screwed on?
Screw cover. It is held secure by a flange plus plated screws, so you pull hardware to get in rather than swinging a hinged lid. Fine for a pull box or splice gutter you rarely open, less convenient where you expect frequent access during commissioning.
4) How does the trough mount to a wall or strut?
Through embossed thru holes formed in the housing, so it bolts straight to a wall, a backboard, or strut without drilling the enclosure. With a 117.877 lb section, anchor into structure or strut rather than sheet material, and support near both ends.
5) Is this B-Line trough certified for use on a Canadian job?
The GRT NK wiring trough is CSA Certified, which is what an inspector in Canada will look for on the label. Body is 16 gauge steel with a NEMA 3R enclosure rating.
6) What is the exact part number to order this 14 x 14 x 120 B-Line trough?
Order Eaton B-Line part 1414120 GRT NK. The number reads as 14 inch height, 14 inch width, 120 inch length, GRT screw cover trough, NK for no knockouts.
7) What gauge steel is the B-Line GRT trough, and will the finish hold up on an exterior wall?
16 gauge steel, painted ANSI 61 gray, the standard switchgear gray that matches most panelboards and industrial enclosures. Closure screws are plated. Paired with the NEMA 3R rating it is intended for exterior rain and ice exposure, not for coastal salt spray or chemical environments where you would specify stainless or a coated enclosure.
