No spring. The N224ZN and its siblings are supplied as a nut without spring, so there is nothing holding the nut against the inside lip of the strut while you position it. That is fine for overhead work where you can reach both hands in, and it is the cheaper, lower-profile option, but for blind or one-hand installs in a deep run of channel a spring-loaded nut is the easier part to work with. Threading is 3/8"-16 either way.
2) What bolt or threaded rod size do I need for the Eaton N224ZN spring nut?
3/8"-16 UNC. That takes a 3/8 inch hex bolt, a 3/8 inch threaded rod, or 3/8 inch all-thread cut to length, all of them common trade stock. The nut itself is the only threaded part in the connection, so if you are hanging from rod you also need the rod, a hex nut and washer at the fixture end.
